Mass Effect: Blasto conquers the Andromeda Galaxy

User Rating: 5 | Mass Effect: Andromeda PC

After spending 1,000+ hours on the Mass Effect trilogy, I have to admit to being pretty disappointed in ME: Andromeda. I have made it 5 hours into the game and am giving up on it. It really is more of a sequel to ME1 than to the trilogy as a whole. The setup is much like ME1, but with better graphics - especially the space and planet-side landscapes. Some of the characters are also very nicely rendered (for example Alec Ryder), but others are quite plastic and lifeless. The dialog in ME:A lacks good conversational flow and emotion. There is an overall lack of expression in the faces and body language of the characters. The Nomad does nothing for me, it is just as frustrating as the Mako was. ME1 had a good story though and ME:A may also turn out to be a good story, but I just cannot get past feeling like I am back on the Citadel with Shepard and Javik watching someone making a bad Blasto movie complete with stilted dialog. I really wanted to love this game and once again get immersed in the Mass Effect universe. But, I don't. Maybe I'll try again in a few months after my unrealistically high expectations have faded some.
