- The Bottom Line:
- "Best in series"
Mass Effect 3 has been one of the best told stories in gaming since the first installment of the series. Mostly for the fact that most of the important choices are made by the player. This game doesn't change that, even tho its ending was received awfully by most critics. They fixed this by adding the director's cut, allowing the player to choose between 3 different endings.
The combat plays like a cover based shooter. You can order your team to take cover or attack an enemy through your controller or the new voice controlled commands through Kinect. The different weapons have different weights, which determines how fast your cooldown rate for skills. The combat feels more fluid as a whole compared the last installment.
The campaign is the culmination of the trilogy, racing around to recruit members to your cause to help fight the Reapers who are assaulting the galaxy. Through your decisions you will recruit all types of people from helping gang lords to saving a species. It all culminates for the final battle and how much effort you put in towards recruiting will show. Familiar faces make appearances, some from the first game and some from the second that you will know and probably have a fair amount of emotion invested in.
Multiplayer is a blast. It's a mix of objective based and survival mode. You team up with other people over Xbox Live to fight either the Reapers, Cerberus, etc. You can unlock new characters to level up and new and better versions of guns to use in your fight. The cool fact is that when you level one of your multiplayer characters to level 20 you can choose to "send him to the fight" and it will count towards your overall readiness in the campaign, starting the character over as a new recruit at level 1. Each match you complete online also contributes to your readiness for the final showdown with the Reapers. It's a fun and innovative way to tie Campaign and Multiplayer together.
Overall this is the best game in the series and hopefully they continue making games in the universe we all know and love.

Single-player is great. Co-op multi-player is very addictive.
