Kevin VanOrd takes the Normandy out for a joyride in this video review for Mass Effect 2.
can somerone tell me without any spoilers why people are upset about mass effect 3?
@TakoReviews Hard to explain without spoilers because the thing people are upset about is the conclusion. Essentially, Bioware kept talking about how your decisions leading up the conclusion would make for very different endings. This was not the case, they were all very similar and pretty unsatisfying. It seemed rushed (which it probably was because EA was hounding them to release... Fuck EA).
They did release an extended cut though that, in my opinion, helped significantly and a lot of people enjoyed it. But, I was never overly angry about it in the first place like some folks.
All that being said, the game is still so great leading up to the end and DEFINITELY worth playing. Make sure you play them in order though. I'm on my 2nd play through of the series right now and I had forgotten how much I enjoy it. I kinda thought the first one would be dated but it is still a lot of fun.
I just thought of the perfect TV analogy for the mass effect series and I'm just lame enough to come back to this forum to post it.
The Mass Effect series is like season 1 of Heroes. Great show and enjoyable all the way up until the last 15 minutes.
Sadly, I missed part one for being on Ps3 (lucky X-boxers :) anyway, I was hesitant of Me2 when I first got it. In fact, it took me a whole year and a couple of months to finally take it out of its shelf again, and give it a shot, and let me simply tell you...WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could I not have like this game at first. One of the most AWESOME games out to date. So awesome, I just had to replay it and make it Plat number 29 for me :D ( though that was a different story: Insanity difficulty handed my ass back to me more than enough times. Wow that was tough.)
Anyway back to the topic...after having played this game, of all NEW games that are coming out..Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3 (one of my favorite franchise), Dishonored ( sOOOOOo want that game SOOoo bad), Bio shock Infinite (Totally want it), Of all these games, if I were given a choice of which one i'd want..I'd have to say (hands down) Mass effect 3.
After playing such a diverse, varied, story-rich, profound, engaging, addicting, beautiful and Kick-ass game like Mass effect 2, other games are feeling...I don't know...shallow. I'm even platting Infamous 2 right now, and it just feels shallow. No other game has EVER made me feel like that.
That is good enough proof of how much work the Devs put into this game. Just look like how many classes you can play as, and how many customization you can make to your character! How many games do that?
Its a third person shooter, open world game, adventure, and straight up AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, so much action does drop the frame rates occasionally, but that can never even dwarf the mightiness of this game! The scanning does kinda suck after a while, but you dont have to go about scanning EVERY planet in the game-just enough to be able to upgrade your ship so all your crew can survive the suicide mission.
I would really give this game a 9.8 (hell, a 10!).
a 9 is a great score. but I think it deserves a bit more than that: a 9.5 MINIMUM.
Obviously Kevin VanOrd was paid for this review, the shooting sucks, yet he praised it, it may be better than the original, but the shooting still sucks,. He also praised the level design, the level design was just awful.
@RageQuitter69 actually it soars as an over-the-shoulder third person shooter, don't know what the heck you are on about. how does his praising one aspect of the game translate to "well he was obviously paid"? get off your high-horse troll.
@gamefreak215jd Im about 7 hours into ME3 and, so far(!) I would say from best to 'worst' ME1>ME2>ME3.
It's a shame that so many feautures have been ****** with imo, in ME1 you could crouch and in ME2 and 3 you can't anymore. In ME3 you can't even holster your weapon anymore which takes away any roleplaying feeling in the combat area's imo. Also ME2 and 3 have an over the top focus on combat compared to ME1. ME2 and 3 area's also feel more linear.
This is only my opinion from being only 7 hours into ME3 so it's open for change. ME1 was the best for me. Still they are all great games and worth playing.
need inspiration on making a beautiful female Shepard = www.masseffect2faces.com
@williebazerka I do think that you should try and get through ME1, BUT if you feel like you really vcan't do that then either get Mass effect Genesis oir whach it on youtube to get thwe story and then play nr2. because you HAVE TO play ME2, it's great!
@philMcCrevis I bought ME2 the day it came out but I wanted to play ME1 first.I tried to finish ME but never did and as a result never played ME2.Yesterday I played it (only a hour or so) and was completely blown away by the atmosphere and presentation of it.I will try and finish part 1 so I can inport my saves but if not I'll just play ME2.Game seems really epic.
@philmccrevis Oh yes it is a great great game. It came to me suddenly somewhere around my 3rd playthrough. This is now my favorite game.
holy crap Mass effect 2 is an amazing game. i've owned it for over a year yet just started playing it. I'm really happy i did. This is amazing and Keven Vanord's review is dead on though I was describe this game as an RPG/shooter hybrid with very very generic character and weapon progression minigames rather than real RPG attributes. Still super engrossing
im getting this game today (i did rent it for the ps3 from a friend but im buying it for the xbox becuse of the save import from mass effect 1 so the entire mass effect series will be imported for me :)
Much better than the first. Best game ever with lots of replay value. Can't wait for the third.
The combat was much better, but I wasn't a fan of the mainstreamed skill tree and the story was at best okay. Hoping ME3 will reboast the rpg aspect and have a kick ass story to boot.
@TheMrBlackfloyd Oh god, please. Mass Effect was a mess. Awful, awful game that was only held together by its story. Mass Effect 2 is a vastly superior game. It took mediocrity and turned it into greatness.
@Ice-Cube damn i missed that offer :( should have snatched it up when i had the opportunity.
this game is fantastic!!!! I just got it last week, and I can't get my mind of of it, it took me a while to find a game like this, I'm glad I gave the series a shot, for sure I'm getting mass effect 3 the day it comes out :) I highly recommend mass effect and mass effect 2 to anyone who loves deep stories and RPG's
@Jmaster211 You're in luck, Steam is having a sale 75% off, now $4.99. I'm picking it up.
just got a new laptop, played the demo(now that I can run it). I NEED THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this game was awesome but it was so hard if you played on the hardest difficulty like me. I got so frustrated i literally threw my controller
I liked the RPG type game of me1 but I liked me2 better because to me it seemed like action RPG suited the game better in my personal opinion however they shouldnt have taken exploreing the worlds with a tank looking thing out of the game insted they should have enhanced the experience great game though both games deserve a 9.5 in my opinion=)
This series is easily my favorite game franchise of all time, and no game has ever done that since Legend of Zelda back on the N64 when i was like 7, lol. I actually think the story is on par with ME1's. Sure it is different, but the story in ME1 was the over arcing story of the Reapers, as this one is mostly about character development. And boy do they nail character development. Every single character has interesting backstories, and i love going into them, even characters i don't like. ME3 is going to be the greatest thing ever made.
@999eric I'm not going to lie. I thought Mass Effect was a good game, however I agree it was kind of over-rated. I went in with these high expectations, but came out feeling like I missed a little bit of the magic somewhere. I'm playing it again with the game + option type deal. Maybe I'll find something this time. I'm going to play the second soon too.
Oh boo, I hate cover shooters. Why do I need to play a game behind a wall the whole time? Sorry, that fact just turned me off of this game!
Bioware... i don't really understand why the hell do you do second chapters more action based... mass effect was a masterpiece... dragon age origins ALSO... mass effect 2 and dragon age 2 was really good games.. really! but why you removed that feeling of a true RP game? to think.... to ... dunno.... why for me mass effect 2 and da2 are less rp than the first chapters? i will buy the third chapter of each one... for sure.. but really a rp must remain a TRUE rp.. i hope people will understand this comment.
i played ME1 and thought it was one of the most overrated games ever... however, ME2 is probably one of the best games ever!
I missed the loot and inventory in Mass Effect 2, but I was thankful that at least they let me use ammo modes. Yes, shooting is more fluid making this a roleplaying shooter, but at least there's still a layer of tactics to follow.
Personally i hope in me3 you get either most or all of your whole team at the beginning of the game like me1, so it can focus on the story more than me2.
Just completed this. I've never had so much fun playing a game whilst enjoying the plot and caring about the characters. Cant wait for ME3
i think both ME1 and ME2 had good and bad qualities to them but i enjoyed playing them both... i hope they took what was good in both games into ME3 and improved upon them... really cant wait til it comes out its gonna be epic for sure!
Ever notice that the Quarian armor is remarkably similar to the Mandalorian armor in Star Wars?
this game is so over rated, the gameplay sucks, clunky slow and generic. The story sucks, the characters in it are cool but the story it's self is so stupid, especially at the end OMG it's a HUMAN REAPER!!! lol wtf? like they couldn't come up with something more clever to reward me for solving the epic mystery? Or even something that makes a little since, why does a humanoid shaped giant robot HAVE to be powered by humans, and they don't even give the reason for that. Im sorry but this game just sucks imo
This game just sucked up my whole weekend - its fantastic. ME1 was too frustrating in combat, and I gave up on it quickly as a consequence. This sequel though is great. One of the best games I've played this year.
