    According to a preview in a finnish gaming magazine (called Pelit) Shepard does die and you cannot prevent it. However this is part of the storyline. Shepard dies in the very beginning, however he is too valuable to be just left dead, so millions of credits are spent to bring him back. Finally after 2 years he is ressurected, but it turns out one of the major investors in the project was none other than Cerberus.

    That Geth is Legion, a Geth who has gained sentience.

    this suggest nothing.if he did die why the hell would that get be wearing his armor or are they saying he turned into a geth......

    Well, i made my own custom character and i never played like the original Shepard, so if he dies or don't doesnt matter to me, i just hope storyline and gameplay be as good as first... and be able to make my own custom character

    You know, even if Shepard had died and we had to play as a new hero, I think I wouldn't mind. As long as it had a great story and his death was a part of it that is.

    Looks interesting... But it is just a glorified cutscene. I'm not worried about Shepherd being absent just yet. In Bioware we trust.

    you can't get rid of shepherd, because without shepherd, there is no spectre, and with no spectre, there is no ship, and without a ship there is no travelling, and without travelling is the most boring storyline ever...probably! So shepherd can't be dead

    If Shepard really is dead then I think the whole game will lead up to the death of Shepard....ooooorrrrrrrr....maybe he just got injured in battle and everyone thinks he's dead

    you know what bioware are like, i mean look at the raven story line in kotor! genius imo! even if u did kinda work it out half way thru

    I don't think itll matter if Sheppard is dead or not. This is BIOWARE we are talking about. Whatever they write seems to be gold (knock on wood). While I would regret having Sheppard dead, it would probably work.

    i don't think shepard is dead at all that would just be terrible.
    i think the people who beat mass effect would miss the character that they put 30 or more hours into
