I really like this game but sometimes, framerate and visual bugs are annoying ( I had to reload my game quite a few times). Anyway, it's still a 9.

Mass Effect 2 has come to the PS3, and Kevin VanOrd is here to give us a taste in this video review.
This guy is such a fucking downer... This type of reviewer is the reason people don't buy games. Like literally from beginning to end all he did was complain and give backhanded compliments. And what's the use of complaining about the Mass Effect 1 Comic not being in the disk, I mean it's already free if you buy it new and besides, the only reason it's there is because Mass Effect 1 couldn't come out for the ps3, so people playing Xbox would have to buy ME1 to experience the same content of comic anyway; In other words, It's not like ME1 is an addon that should be included...
I also have some sound issues with dialogues and FX in my PS3. I dont understand why it have a lower score, if the PS3 come with more content, like the interactive comic about the events of ME1 (no released for PS3), plus de add on content from the limited edition (not collectors). The the problems with the sound and a few glitches with the textures is really bothering me.
is it just my game where there are sound issues? like the talking goes ine but whenever something happens in cutscenes like at the end of this video the sound effect come a few seconds later, but the talking doesnt. does anyone else have this problem?
how does that work? if there is more stuff to do on ps3 how does it get a lower score?
I have both console versions and it's great no matter which you pick it up for. A little too biased for the 360 there Kev, as the PS3 version is not that bad. I'd say it's equal even though the bugs(which have long been patched) plagued it in the beginning it more than makes up for it with the included DLC. If you don't have it, go out now and get it.
I know ME2 on PC and 360 had DLC, but it was after the reviews. I was trying to answer why the PS3 version got a lower score.
@hunterz263 ME2 on PC and Xbox 306 did have DLC but you had to purchase it separately.
To anyone wondering why the Xbox 360 version of the game got a better score than the PS3 is because it was released one year earlier than the PS3 version. Don't forget ME2 on the 360 and PC had no DLC. PS3 does, so it's understandable why PS3 got a lower score since it had more to review than the 360 version.
Why did he not complain about these DLC problems for the other versions? They were just given as an incentive to buy the game for the PS3, not as a point to defferentiate it from other versions. So the review should focus on the main game, not the additional content. Therefore, it should probably recieve the same score as other versions, as it's pretty much the same thing.
how come the crap box 360 version gets a 9.0 while the PS3 version gets a 8.5?... PS3 is superior in most games to the 360, so... whats with the score difference?.... gamespot reviewers must not like the better PS3 console for some reason...
Wow, this review makes the game look terrible. If I haven't played it like 8 times, I would probably stay away from it after watching this. Spends almost half review on technical problems with DLCs, and shooter mechanics? Come ob Kevin, you can do better! (Wallk away to play more ME2).
I think the first person shooter elements of the game are okay but definately not where it shines. I play the Mass Effect games for the immersion as it gives you alot of freedom and has an unforgettable cast of characters typical of a Bioware game.
tryed the demo of this game the other day and realy cant see what all the hype is about... it kinda sucked actualy.
It's a true shame those who rely on the PS3 can't play ME1. I'd strongly recommend everyone plays ME1 somehow, it's certainly not worth missing.
Great Review, but for goodness sake, use a different gun! All the guy used was the pistol.
Just got it last week, so I haven't been able to update with psn down. It's a good game, but without that patch there ARE lots of bugs/glitches, the worst of them is that the team member AI varies so much (sometimes it doesn't matter if you're there, other times they run to cover nowhere near the fights) it's amazing it was released in this state.
shooting games are not my cup of tea, but this game is just something else. I'm a couple of hours into the game and i can say i am very pleased i bought it :P
"d1rty88 & LeoLex_" rage or not rage, cry or not cry, like it or dont like it this game is a masterpiece and the mass effect franchise its here to stay for more than a decade so plz go rage elsewhere.
People forgot to menction a thing about this game (That I must say it's really a shame), From Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2 there are more than 30 side quests that influence the story on ME2, translating in miniquests that offer experience. Most of those are not present in the PS3 version, (guess too mucha variables to put em into that introduction interactive comic). Nevertheless, still an awesome game and a must buy.
@ HeathO: Maybe you were lucky but I did experience every glitch Kevin talked about. It's been patched and most of the glitches have since then disappeared but at the time when he reviewed the game they were still there. And I still experience the low textures with the Overlord DLC. And the comic isn't on the disc. You get a code with the game if you buy it brand new to download the Cerberus Network on the Playstation Store, which includes the comic. And lol @ IGN.
Did Gamespot play the retail versio of the game or did they play a prerelease copy, Kevin made several mistakes in this review. He stated the comic was not available on the disk which is incorrect and I did not have the issues with the DLC and large open areas he reported, just the occasional frame rate issues. Maybe they should purchase a new PS3 or something. I have also checked another review from IGN and they make no mention of these issues either. So.... whats up Gamespot?
Kevin is my favorite reviewer, but I got this game, played it and it is really awesome. I would at least give it a 9.
Fantastic game, but has anybody else experienced a bug where the sound effects or dialog is delayed or skipped over? I love the game but this is happening to me all the time and it really gets annoying.
(Continued) Obviously I don't believe the reviewer is lying but I still find it curious, due to what I have presented here and having played this reviewed version and have not found the same amount of errors that would seem to ultimately demote this version of the game in praise. In other words: I respectfully disagree.
Hmm. I am curious about this review. It seemed to take especial note to the glitches and textures, particularly in the Overlord section. I also wonder why this is given such a big issue when it seems that it is a faithful port from the 360 and PC versions, as in his review for Overlord, he states: "The vehicular sections are a missed opportunity, and some of Mass Effect 2's occasional glitches have carried over into the latest content." This of course would imply that the DLC did little to improve on the issues of the original game for the 360 and PC, which both got scores of 9.0 by the very same reviewer. Now I agree, I noticed these exact texture problems while I played the game-but vehicular combat was never Mass Effects strong suit. And compared to the buggy vehicle segments in the first game, this is a big improvement. Also, while playing my copy I never found any frame rate issues and I played through, literally, every mission. There where some sound effects that where out of sync in action sequences. (I can think of three immediately off the top of my head.) However these where few and far between and never hindered the actual experience of the game; kind of like how the reviewer stated in his Overlord review: "But these minor gripes barely lessen the dramatic impact of Shepard's latest mission--which also happens to be one of his (or her) best." (Continued)
god i couldnt take anymore of that combat, everything about the quest lay outs really bored the hell out of me, you got off the ship, shot some bad guys, went into cover, shot some more, had a cut scene, then got on the ship again, repeat until your mind cant take anymore WELL OVER HYPED CRAP. i never felt like i was enjoying any of it, there isnt really anything to collect (which i love doing in RPG's), the weapons and the upgrades had no soul, and the environments were all the same in the respect that, you had things to hide behind and a box that needed hacking round every corner. but the main problem for me was, i knew at the beginning of every quest how it was going to unfold, it was mind numbing!!!! i dont understand how this game can score 10 from most reviews ive seen. am i the only one to see right past the brilliant voice acting, and Meranders boobs?
@LeoLex_ I completely agree with you. I played this game a little bit and the "action" is so boring. I'm a big fan of RPG and Shooter games, but this one was just so boring. I'm sure the story line is awesome, but it's not worth the lame gameplay.
@ Kevin-V I am really sorry about not getting any reply :( -- perhaps you consider my question merely rhetorical or feel provoked or are just too busy while I thought you were actually advocating same-sex issues in videogames. Well, I tell you what I would have been answering if I were you: the problem is not the game itself while avoiding a complicated political issue but the (other) video game magazine in putting some special accent on it... Un saludo
After fully playing through this, its the best version hands down. All the content packs, not many problems, frame rate doesnt stutter. The overlord has bad textures in 1 or 2 points, Kevin for some reason focused on these on purpose i dont know why. Its about 1 minute of the game or less. Kasumi is EXACTLY the same as all the other characters except you dont need to go through a full mission to hire her. She has a decent mission to get her loyal, she ended being one of my favourites as she is very different. Im not sure what kvo was on about at all here. Shocking review. So all in all its amazing, good graphics very few glitches, the comic means you dont have to trawl through the first game to try different endings, you can do the set up in a few minutes. This should get 9.5 easily. I recommend to all ps3 users who like a game with choices and an enthralling story. PS Does anyone else have massive problems with this website being really laggy or is it my pc? Also why oh why do they have to have the next video auto load up and reload the whole page... that feature is really putting me off gamespot. Does anyone else agree it should be removed?

Didn't get what they were saying about Kasumi, but did experience what nuwaynuway said about the rare audio and graphics sync. But didn't think it was an issue. The only thing that makes MassEffect 2 for the XBOX more attractive than PS3 is because of MassEffect 1 (MS owns it, so no PS3 release) and obviously its low price. Yet, Sony did include a comic explaining the major choices from Mass Effect, improved graphics over XBOX, and the inclusion of downloadable content. I think there was a trailer somewhere stating that PS3 version was smoother than the XBOX version, but can't remember exactly. Point is, should have got more credit. Looking forward to Mass Effect 3 as it kind of reminds me of Gantz Final Mission.
played the first one on PC and enjoyed for the most part, but couldnt remember why i didnt rush to get the second on release. So i picked it up on PS3 on release, then about 4 hours in i remembered why. the combat in these games is boring as hell, and i dont know but everywhere you go feels the same. i wont be getting the 3rd
@ Kevin-V In another video game magazine I recently read that in Mass Effect 2 close relationships between the characters (Shepard, Miranda...) were possible, but only heterosexual constellations... -- The Universe is it straight? As a specialist on this topic (s. Homophobia and Video Games, blog from 16May 08 ), do you consider this a negative aspect here, or in general? Wouldn't same-sex couples add a somewhat odd tendency to this game giving it sort of a political dimension while actually being rather marginal to the story as such? -- Thanks in advance for your attention
What a fantastic game! Thumbs up if you're with me. Who cares about a numerical rating. If you had fun, that's all that counts.
well whaddya know another 10 pages of users complaining over a numerical rating here at GS man some things never do change
But I don't think Gamespot are more lenient or biased towards any console, although sometimes I think they overate and underrate games sometimes....
I think it is a bit silly to deduct 0.5 for not being able to import a character. You have to judge it as a game, like the game play, story etc. And the interactive comic is not only great but it does a good job telling the story from the last game, although I wish you made more decisions in the comic. And the choices you make in the comic really can impact on how the story plays out. I do have to agree with the technical hitches, mostly it is fine (except for sometimes a character would dissapear momentarily in a cut scene), but the hammerhead sequences on the Overlord DLC have massive technical and visual problems. But overall it is a fantastic game, and I have played the Xbobx version, but the PS3 version is the better because not only do you get all the great bonus content, the graphics are bit better, and there are no more or less technical problems than the 360 version..
