Immersible storyline, great combat mechanics, needs more customization.

Like many I wasn't into Mass Effect when it first came out, I heard all these stories of how repetitive it was and how after a few hours of play it became boring. Eventually I did pick up the game and I was heavily into it. I've been waiting for Mass Effect 2 since I beat Mass Effect. I'm glad they kept the combat mechanics as they were not flawed in any way, in my opinion. Also they changed the planet scanner, which was a HUGE plus cause I remember spending hours driving around planets, searching for minerals and additional supplies. Their new scanner is much easier and allows less time spending searching for needed minerals to upgrade equipment.
I am however disappointed in what they left out. In the first game there was a massive amount of armor, weapons, etc. That, for some reason has been scrapped and only the main character gets to change his armor with minimal results. Sure you can customize the color and patterns on the armor, but I want to have a variety of armors to customize and not a small handful. Also you are no longer able to equip your team with armor, instead they get a standard outfit that you can only change into a single alternate AFTER you do their loyalty quest.
The same goes for the weapons. instead of a huge variety of weapons, your lucky if you can find more than 3 options for each kind of weapon, and usually the ones you start with are much better, so its not even worth your time to search for anything else.
This problem also carries over to the character customization. There are very few choices in hairstyles, eyes, colors, facial hair, etc to choose from. Also there isn't any choice in changing how your character sounds, so, for me anyways, my character did not match the voice and it was frustrating.
Customization to me was the only real problem with this game. Everything else flowed very nicely and was near perfection in my opinion. I strongly believe if Bioware opens the flood gates for customization in Mass Effect 3 and leave the combat system in place and keep a strong storyline as they have, then that game will go down in history as one of the best games ever.
