several people told me this was a great game so I went and bought it - installed it on my ps4 and got busy.
I was immediately bummed that it was yet ANOTHER 'original take' on spider man .. cuz frankly after a million different versions of spider man I gotta be honest here and say that I just want one spider man .. not another one. Small costume things bugged me - but I got over it because I wanted to play the game.
which wound up being a button mashing waste of time and money. Sure it looks okay and any spider man fan will be happy to web sling around the town ( best part of the game by far ) and punch baddies while flipping through the air on freshly slung webs - but when it comes down to actual gameplay this was so lacking that I returned it the next day and bought two other games that I'm super into.
it became evident very quickly that this game - while it might look cool - had no value at all to me as far as playing a fun video game goes. It might as well have been Shadow of Mordor in a Spidery Suit ... or Batman in red tights. while your Spidey has lots of moves he can do the dynamic of the game almost demands that you pretty much just mash away and hope for the best - and half the enemies you are fighting in the group battles aren't even visible onscreen. It took me only a couple of minutes to figure out that the best way to win every fight ( expect for maybe some bosses ) was to just mash them buttons and watch what happens.
maybe that's why this is one of the most platinum trophy'd games ever on the PSN - because your dog could finish this game provided you put enough peanut butter on the controller buttons.
i was disappointed , let down , and truly unsatisfied with this game. Maybe I'm just old - but this seemed like all flash and no bang. The web slinging was great - it worked good and was fun - but the rest of the game .. I dunno. The way he walks like he's an orc with something up this butt , the whole story aspect with an entirely recast assortment of characters we'd all love to know and love but they keep changing them so much it's just getting kinda stupid now ... blargh...
i love Spidey - so this one gets a five out of ten just for trying - but you won't find me playing this one any time ever.
