More or Less of a decent fighting game...

I bought this game about the time it hit stores in 2005, I was obsessed and highly anticipated with its release. When I heard about it the first time, I was freaking out, like finally we(Marvel fans) were finally getting a Mortal Kombat version of Marvel Superheroes? well...more or less so. This game's story mode was pretty bland and hard as hell, you weren't able to choose a character to play as, instead the game chose it for you making it sometimes hard to adapt to each character so fast.

I didn't like the fact that you couldn't pick the character you wanted to play as in story mode. Though the versus mode made up for it. When I found out you didn't need to play story mode in order to unlock all playable characters, and you could just keep playing against the CPU I was baffled. It's almost as if the story mode is not even worth trying out, it seems to be just easier to go ahead and start inviting friends over and beating the living **** out of each other.
So, the story is about an alien scientist named Niles Van Roekel who creates a team of bad guys called the Imperfects(which represents the game suitably) and you, as a superhero, must go around destroying aliens and fighting off the Imperfects. The downside of this, is that the game goes from fun to boring and aggravating as hell.
I must say, playing as Elektra or Daredevil was pretty hard, same with the likes of: Storm, Wolverine, and The Human Torch. Playing as a character with no strength at all can really get in the way of the story line. Considering the difficulty of most of the villains in this game, having strength and being able to throw large objects(cars, trucks, boxes, etc.) are almost required if you're planning to beat this game.

Now to name probably the most and only enjoyable characters to play as, are: Spider-Man, Venom, Elektra, Daredevil, Johnny Ohm, Iron-Man, Wolverine, Paragon, and probably Hazmat. Most of the characters like: The Thing, The Human Torch, Fault Zone, Storm, etc.. were just boring and hard to use overall. I don't know, it seems like there was a lot of characters that should've been in this game and replaced the boring ones.
In my opinion, adding: Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Ghost Rider, The Punisher, Rogue, Carnage, and even The Incredible Hulk would've been more of a fun experience to play as in this difficult, aggravating, confusing game.

My personal opinion of this game was that it had potential of being a pretty fun game, but it lacked good graphics and good story telling overall. If it wasn't for the versus mode, this game would be in the bottom of my trash can by now, or not even there but probably shredded into dust.
