A fast, fun, and hilarious Marvel fighting game that plays well. A few minor flaws hurt the game a bit, but not much.

I cannot comprehend why most people absolutely despise this game. This is one of the best fighters I have ever played, as it gets away from the close-up, 1v1 traditional style to add more elements and even, dare I say, some strategy into this genre rather than simplistic button mashing.

You do still fight one on one, but its done in a way that is fun, and makes for some hectic and furious battles.

Graphically, this game is very good, with the exception of some very wierd lighting effects on the characters. Wolverine looks like Wolverine, and Iron Man looks like Iron Man. That's really all I can ask for, that the on-screen characters actually represent the Marvel characters.

The sound is varied and realistic. You'll hear everything from a power generator getting ready to blast some electricity into the middle of the stage, to the familiar metallic sound of Wolverine unsheathing his claws. The music is sort of boring, but then again, not many people buy fighting games for the music, now do they?

The controls are great, and easy to master. It's simple, with a bit of practice, to perform air combos or aerial throws on your opponent.

This game is different from most fighters because they give you a fully destructable environment to play in(FINALLY! THANK GOD!). You can rip out poles from the ground, hurl cars and even a tank, and smash up benches, support posts, and pretty much everything, even the barriers around the edges of the arenas. Your character has to be strong enough however, and you won't see Daredevil throwing a tank at you.

All the fighters are pretty well balanced, with one or two MAJOR exceptions. Iron Man is nearly invincible when played right, and Daredevil flat out sucks. Most of the other characters balance out, and what they may lack in speed or power, they make up in the other.

The story is rather good, I find, with some of the more popular heroes taken out early in the game to make way for lesser knowns like The Thing, and Elektra. It doesn't last long, but the VS. mode more than makes up for it.

All in all, this is a solid game. If you can get past a bit of wierd lighting, and actually complete Daredevil's missions, this is a really fun game to play.
