Great start, but still plenty of room for improvement

User Rating: 7 | Marvel Heroes PC
I think that Marvel Heroes is a great game. For one of the few new MMO's on the market it without an "Open Beta" tag attached to it, it is surprisingly well done. It is a roguelike stemming greatly from the early Diablo franchise. The MMO name it has attached to it is to explain the reasoning for open world chapters and quest hubs.

The most appealing aspect of the game is it's loot system. Out of all the ARPGs out there right now I feel that this game is the only one that does loot justice. Seeing incredibly rare equipment early on in the game is fulfilling. All gear with an uncommon rating or higher has a great variation of stats attached to it. There are multiple ways to play each character because of this. The artifact and medal gear slots are a unique touch to standard gear systems. High end equipment, characters and costumes drop at a reasonable rate when you have the right amount of magic find.

The stat system is very simple. Which in some ways can be a negative to those who love to tinker, but there are still plenty of numbers to crunch to find the best builds. There are 7 types of base stats and based on the heroes lore determines their base stat levels and how much they can level up on their own.

Combat is nothing out of the ordinary. It is your standard hack and slash with a few key bound abilities thrown in. Group play is a bit more exciting than say Guild Wars 2 random events, but also shares a lot of similarities to the stand still zerg combat venue.

Overall the game is enjoyable to those who are fans of the Marvel universe and prefer a simple yet intricate loot system brought to you by the same developer that gave birth to the ARPG phenomenon. It can be a lot of fun with friends and if they focus on streamlining new content I could see this game lasting for years to come
