Best GBA, RPG, and mario game i have ever played.

User Rating: 9.5 | Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga GBA
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is definitely the best game i have ever played. Let me tell you why. A few years ago, I completely lost my interest in all RPGs after playing the classic final fantasy 4. They seemed to become so repetitive and boring to me. They took up a lot of my time and i simply stopped playing them. A few years later I entered a Gamestop store and, being an old fashioned gamer, checked out the GBA games. I was, and still am, a big Mario fan and i noticed a Mario game that had some kind of weird creature on the cover of game pak. (The games didn't have boxes.) It looked like an alien version of Count Dracula. However, the game had the name Mario on it so i decided to buy it and try it out with the thought that i might actually return it a week later. When I casually popped it in and turned on my GBA, it became clear to me that this was not the typical platforming plumber I was familiar with. After the humorous introduction I got to see the first battle and I thought to myself, "Oh no, not an RPG with turned-based battles! I'm returning this right now!" Yet another part of me decided to give it a chance. As I played through for about another hour I realized that I was not playing through a typical turn-based attack game. The battles really put you in the action. You have to push a certain button at a certain time to either perform a stronger attack, avoid an attack, and, if your timing is good enough, a counterattack. This really strayed from the typical FF formula and I loved it. The fun and engaging battles aren't the only reason to buy this title, though. The storyline is hilarious, the added characters are charming, and the older ones are given more personality. Mario and Luigi hardly speak but when their fake Italian voice-work is performed, i can't help but crack a smile. This game took me over 20 hours to complete not counting the amazingly addictive mini-games. The game's challenge is close to perfection and the pacing is amazingly fast and fun. The graphics are the 2nd greatest eye candy I received from a GBA game (number one being kirby). I want to thank Mario for bringing me back to the RPG formula I love so much and want to congratulate him on his amazing performance in Superstar Saga. I hope to be able to play the sequels on the Nintendo DS as well in the near future. This game is another great example of showing that Mario doesn't only succeed on his classic platformers. I didn't give it a 10 because of some nitpicking which I have to do because it's a Mario game. (Sorry!) Sometimes, I got lost and didn't know where to go and the map doesn't help when you need more specific direction. Also, there is one long and somewhat tedious battle where I could only hit the opponent with 1 hit point each turn which was really annoying. The storyline can also be a bit ridiculous and confusing sometimes as well. However, don't let this (ugh) nitpicking stop you from buying this title right now! So, if you're a Mario or RPG fan; or even if you aren't, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is definitely one of the best games for you to play.
