Awesome and Legendary :)

User Rating: 10 | Marathon Infinity MAC
Ok, first off, I just have to say, it's a shame that lots of PC users aren't going to click on this because they think it's a mac only game, so, Heads Up Gamespot, you should change that listing! Anyway, Bungie released the entire trilogy as freeware a couple years ago, and you can play them in Windows using AlephOne, the Marathon OpenSource project. It's really simple, like a 5mb app you drop into the folder of the Marathon you want to play, and then double click it instead of the Marathon App, easy as pie. It's the best way to play any of the Marathon games or mods these days anyway, on Mac OR PC. Not to mention that it now includes full normal internet host/join type multiplayer, OpenGL graphics, mouselook, etc. Ok, I just had to say that for anyone who didn't know, you can get it at all at source.bungie.org. Now on to my actual review.... I was a mac user growing up, and when I was 12, in 94, Marathon was awesome, and it still is today. The whole trilogy is great, but Infinity is the best looking of the bunch, althought it's hard to say if it's really the BEST, I personally prefer it, but i know a lot of people prefer Marathon 2 also, as far as story/levels go...they're really about equally great. Even by today's standards, Marathon Infinity holds up fabulously, the story draws you in, the level design can be so challenging sometimes that you feel incredibly proud of yourself when you FINALLY beat such and such a level. The two things I think really make the Marathon games stand out are the unique feel of the gameplay, and of course, the Story, which is sometimes mysterious, sometimes dark and forboding, sometimes humourous, and always immersive. For the time, the sound was great. There's never really been any music in the Marathon games, but I've always found that it just drew me in more, and made it feel more real. There's no music, but things are never quite silent either, the ambient sound is great. Ok, if you don't know anything about Marathon and you're still reading this, your'e probably starting to think I'm either right, or very biased. Well, go ahead and try to find a BAD review of ANY of the Marathon trilogy. I dare ya :)
