Okay, before we start, I just have to say, if you are at all squeamish and hate blood gore, or any violent behavior, don't waste your time reading this review or even looking at this game. Now that that's out of the way, Manhunt is a game that is created by rockstar north, the creators of GTA (duh) so when I first picked this up i had high hopes for it coming from such a good developer. And for the most part, it is right up there with GTA, another great game from rockstar. You play as James Earl cash, a death row inmate who is about to be executed by lethal injection. He awakens to the voice of a man who calls himself "the director" a sadistic psyco who makes snuff films and Cash is his new protagonist. Cash is now in the abandoned are known as Carson City A real run down dump of a place where only gangs roam the streets. The director has now pitted cash against multiple gangs, as well as corrupt cops and swat teams, as well as bodyguards known as "cerberus guards". Your objective is to follow the directors orders and try to survive the night to get your second chance at life. The only way to truly survive the manhunt for you is by executing your hunters in a truly brutal fashion. This is the basic gameplay, you hide in the shadows of lure a hunter to your positon and then execute him. This can be done with many diffrent weapons, such as knives, plastic bags, glass shards, machetes, baseball bats, crowbars, wooden sticks, hammers, and others. You can do brutal executions on your enemies (i.e., stabbing your victim in the eye, batting his head off, cutting his head off, jamming a crowbar into his neck,etc.). There are three levels of execution, brutal, mild, and violent. The longer you hold your A or X button the more graphic it is. Later in the game, you are able to wield all sorts of firearms to blow your enemies away. This is where it get a little more difficult as the enemies can overpower you very quickly. This can sometimes lead to trial and error gameplay that does get frusturating after a while but eventually you get over the area you are stuck on, just be persistant. The sound is absolutley amazing, from the screams and cries of hunters during executions, to the voice of the director, to the BANG of gunshots, and even the sound of simply tapping on the wall, the sound is one of the most impressive aspects of the game. The control is easy to get into and does not take long to learn, nothing complicated there. The graphics do seem a little dated by today's standards and had me almost remembering late N64 and early playstation 2 graphics. However, you should be able to look past them if you havent been playing a playstation 3 or 360 for the past week. The only faults I had with the game were that it does take a while to finish unless you are truly an experienced master gamer, however, it wont have you screaming at your television in frustration, however there may be times where you have to be patient and persistant during gameplay. Dont expect many extras here, they are very hard to unlock and are ussually nothing special, just extra gang info, new player skins, concept art, just you run of the mill extras are tacked on. To sum it up, manhunt is another great game from rockstar and is worth it for only ten dollars at your local Eb games or Gamestop. If you are an easily frusturated gamer, or cant get passed the gore and the controversy of it (you know what im talking about) or just like a little more action from your games, this may not be for you. However, if you loved stealth games like splinter cell mixed with the occasional gun play of Gta, this is a great game for only ten dollars and is a true treasure in my library.
