Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts doesn't have much to give you, or does it? All you do is run sideways, jump and shoot anything that you see, true? Well that's like Megaman, old school Metroid, basicaly like any side scroller. One thing that Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts has that others don't have: The challenge. Sure, once you get the basics down, understand how every treasure chests' components works, it gets pretty easy top beat through the game, like any other game. Once you know it, it's in your pocket. But nonetheless, this game never gets tiring only because some parts of the game makes you want to grab your SNES, and break it apart on a wall .;cough;. Red Gargoyles .;cough;.. EVERYBODY knows them gargoyles which are a pain.
The different kind opf weapons aren't all that diversified, but each has his own unique advantages and disadvantages, and each has their own magic attribute (when used with the golden armor). each armor makes the weapon you are using more valuable and better starting from the normal armor, green armor (whatever their name could be) and the most pwoerful one, the golden armor with which you can now use magic. All that put together makes for a good variety of attacks and with time you learn which wepaon is the best for each stage, or you do like me and get stuck on a particular weapon and seek more for the armors.
Now I could put a spoiler right here about near the end of the game..but that would break the fun of playing it right? I know when I got there I just wanted to kill everybody around me..luckily I was alone. The story..there's a story? Yeah of course there is, but it's not really there. If ONE Person can tell me they found the story awesome, that the story MAKES the game, ANYTHING other than "the story is there basicaly for nothing", please contact me right now.
I mean..if you like challenges, this game is for you. But if by any case you find it not enough of a challenge (like I sometimes do), seek the Capcoms Classics Collection for PS2 or the CCC Reloaded for PSP, which contains Ghosts 'N Goblins, Ghouls 'N Ghosts as well as this game right here that I'm reviewing. Both other 2 games are more challenging than this one, or say, more frustrating. Unless you're a lucky one and own the original cartridges, get either of these collections for the games and enjoy a night of controller bashing time!
