User Rating: 9 | Manhunt PS2
Manhunt definitely bears the Rockstar brand seal of controversy and this game has been dealt its fair share of press. The brutal implementation of violence in this game is fantastic as it puts the player in the role of a hunter who quickly and usually becomes the hunted. Playing this game is great because its damn scary, no one can contest the level of immersion found here that even now is effective in engaging the player. Though the graphics are outdated this is a game which utilizes sights, actions, and most importantly sound to convey its dark theme. James Earl Cash is a rockstar styled antagonist in that you can't help but fear his brooding persona. The controversy of Manhunt spawns from the premise of the game revolving around the stalking and uncensored butchering of gang members and hobos but hey at least they got what they had coming.. right? At its core Manhunt is a terrific stealth action game combined with survival horror elements which results in a terrific hybrid. The game is also fantastically paced as you never feel rushed or obligated to play one way or another. The level designs are quite large so their is a lot of freedom on how you want to execute your pursuers. Later in the game Cash gets guns, the result is something that feels like a precursor for Grand Theft Auto four and while the stealth aspect is sacrificed the game maintains it intensity as Cash is normally outnumbered and only capable of taking 2 maybe 3 shotgun blasts. So fans of previous and later Rockstar Games ought to check this one out as it is undoubtedly a piece of hidden treasure, which will please survival horror fans and stealth action fans alike.
