Careful Iteration of the CoD4 Formula

Careful Iteration: As the title implies, this game is the second entry in the Modern Warfare series. Infinity WArd did not deviate much from CoD4's highly successful formula other than to smooth out the rough edges. So basically, if you loved CoD4, then you'll undoubtedly love MW2. This game surpasses its predecessor in every aspect.
60 Frames-Per-Second: Simply put, MW2 is a gorgeous game that runs smooth as butter. While other FPSs (like KZ2) have more visual effects going on, MW has a very "clean" look to it due to the high frame-rate. This game is at least on par, if not better-looking, than any FPS on the market and truly "Demo Material" for showing off your HDTV.
Spec Ops: If you've read my blog before, then you know I'm a huge co-op fan. So while I'd prefer full-on co-op for the campaign, IW gave gamers a worthy alternative in SpecOps. You & a bud play through side-missions taken from the main campaign. Each mission will take about an hour and they are all action packed.
Online Unlockables: Give IW credit because unlocking a new scope for your favorite gun and/or a new Perk is oddly exciting. In fact, IW's whole online ranking-up system can be addictive. Each kill / objective completion awards you points displayed on screen. After each round you are shown how close you are to achieving a higher rank. As game critics like to say, there are "Happy Moments" everywhere in MW2
It's really easy to understand why MW2 is so successful and will be played, by millions, online until the sequel is released. The game never stops rewarding you.
Action-Packed Campaign: A staple of every IW game is an awesome campaign and MW2 does not disappoint. It's like a Summer blockbuster movie; The narrative isn't particularly strong, but the action is so intense you won't care. But, there's at least one scene/mission you will not forget for years to come.
Party System: I've said it before and I'll say it again; Every online game needs a Party System. It's no surprise the most successful games this generation have included this feature. There's nothing better than hopping from game to game with a few friends in MW2.
Audio Design: Superb audio in every aspect. From the voice acting, the audio effects, to the soundtrack; MW2 is a game that demands a surround sound system. This game is "Demo Material" for your sound system.
Main Menu: Just wanted to mention MW2's main menu is simply perfect. It's just 3 options for each game mode (SpecOps, Campaign, Online) and that's all. Perfect, simply perfect.
Party System Glitches: Unfortunately, MW2's Party System is not perfect and can be a pain in the rear. I'd say 80% of the time, the Party System works flawlessly. But for that other 20%, you'll have Party Members get dropped or put into other games. Or your Party (even with just 2 people) will be split onto opposing teams.
The Rich Getting Richer: I still have a fundamental disagreement with how IW does online MP with the whole Perks/Unlockables system. It seems unfair to me that the more experienced players get rewarded with the better weapons, kill streaks, and Perks. It's almost like an intentional unbalancing of the game. I guess I'm just a Halo fan who prefers everyone starting each match the same.
No Campaign Co-Op: I realize that SpecOps is a good compromise, but I still would've preferred co-op throughout the campaign. It just seems like a missed opportunity because you always have at least one other soldier with you.
Modern Warfare 2 is everything a sequel should be. The graphics & audio are better, the online MP has been rebalanced, and there's evena co-op mode now. The campaign will have you glued to your HDTV for the 7hrs it lasts. The Spec Ops missions are fun romps with a friend. But most importantly, the online MP is fun, accessible, and can be addicting.
Depending on how much of CoD4 you played; MW2 may or may not feel fresh to you. I enjoyed CoD4, but I mainly played Halo3. So that's why I had difficulty finding any flaws in MW2 because everything felt fresh to me. This is a great game which deserves to be played by any FPS fan.
