Nice to have a baseball game on the Wii, but I demand equal rights!

User Rating: 7 | Major League Baseball 2K8 WII
MLB 2K8 is a saving grace for us Nintendo-baseball-addicts, as we were deprived of a baseball game of any kind [besides The BIGS and MLB Power Pros] for any Nintendo System in 2007. 2K Sports decided to jump on the Wii bandwagon for 2008 in making MLB 2K8. MLB 2K8 does a lot of things right. The gameplay is very satisfying as you get to take wild hacks with your wii-mote and wild throws again with your wii-mote. I noted that 2K strayed a little bit from the control scheme of The BIGS, so any transition could take a game or two. Batting can be a tad on the frustrating side until you get your timing down. But once you do, count on upping the difficulty a whole lot as you end up taking almost every pitch, no matter how ridiculous, out of the ballpark. Pitching is great as you actually aim your pitch with the wii-mote. My only recommendation is that you can't really determine how much exertion you want your pitcher to throw the ball if you want to save up stamina. Fielding is very average in this game as you find yourself missing a lot of balls and your players making poor throws if you don't put them in their designated position. There are also various glitches that 2K seems to ignore since I have noticed them in previous versions of the game.

Graphics in the Wii version are pretty much Playstation 2 quality. Many players have signature walkups, windups and etc. but their movement quality and their faces are not up to par in this generation of consoles. I was also disappointed that the rosters were not up to date and many of the players' pictures were from up to 2-3 years ago which is not acceptable.

Once again, the commentary in MLB 2K8 is wonderful. Every year, they start from the previous game, and add more and more commentary and insight to the game. John Miller and Joe Morgan keep the game moving save for one glitch where you hit a single and round the bases only to go back to first base. They claim you are in a pickle and it was amazing that you got out of it.

If I had never seen the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of this game, I would have said this was a great game. But the abscence of the playing card mode and the minor leagues is simply unacceptable. There is absolutely no reason that 2K should leave these modes out of the Wii version. The Wii can certainly handle the two extra options. This is yet another example of a 3rd party company jipping off Nintendo systems. So if you only have a Wii, and you're a baseball fan, by all means get this game. But if you're a casual fan, and/or you have another system, get it for the 360 or ps3.
