What was thought to be impossible was made possible by Zipper Interactive.. and a real keeper too!

User Rating: 9.5 | MAG PS3
At first I was skeptical about this game and how it would turn out. Several factors could easily have easily turned the game into a disaster, but Zipper actually pulled through for us ladies and gentlemen.

More about the game: M.A.G (acronym for Massive Action Game) is a MMOFPS (Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter). The game pits up to 256 players, 128 players per team divided into 4 platoons each of which contain 4 squads that contain 8 players with a team leader (whoa). Personally, I think telling the story/setting would be a bit pointless but there are three factions: Valor, Raven and S.V.E.R. Valor can be considered as the "typical American solider." Raven takes up the role of the high tech, well funded "elite" soldiers and S.V.E.R would be your underdog, bad ass rebellious soldiers. You remain loyal to only one of these factions as you face off the other two in the Shadow War.

What I thought about it: Like I said, I was astounded to see the game turned out to be a success in the end. I played the open beta and liked it, but it didn't feel like a "must buy" from the get go. However, with some minor tweaks here and there, the end product provides some VERY satisfying online FPS game-play! Despite the enormous maps, gunfire coming in from all directions, explosions, air strikes (btw, everything is non-scripted -> all sounds and sights were triggered by a real player) the game does NOT lag! It provides a great deal of customization. This ranges from upgrading your weapons, upgrading skills and all that jazz. The visuals are surprisingly stunning (imagine a first person Warhawk) for a game that contains 256 online players at one time! Some issues I found with the game is not being able to make more than one character (but that just makes things more tense..) and how you can't jump back when prone, you have to press the triangle button, go back to crouch and then back to standing!

Verdict: I have to re-state my verdict as I have recently discovered the true greatness behind this game. I up the rating from 9.0 to a 9.5 due to the amazing tactical game play. At first I thought the game was really great, but one I immersed myself into the tactical game play (Acquisition and Domination..phew!) and am absolutely impressed. This has turned from a recommend into a must - buy, truly addicting and the team play just ties everything together - it feels like an actual war where the leading officer gives orders. Everyone get M.A.G now or you are missing out on something beautiful! :)
