Greg Kasavin fills in for Erik Wolpaw to give us a detailed review on Illusion Softworks' Mafia.
It was such a surreal moment seeing Angelo die in your own hands in Mafia 2. Truly made me pause the game and internalize what just happened.
And here's the latest comment for 2011!! I'm just about to finish up installing Mafia... I missed out on clearing it completely a few years back... Well I'll get to this legendary story now
Simply, this game is legendary. It deserves a bigger rating. It deserves more than 10/10. And I'm happy that people still watch this on Gamespot and YouTube. I'm even doing an HD Mafia Walkthrough. It's here in my channel: youtube.com/user/virgilhilts1944
It's been almost 10 years. Damn, It feels like I played it yesterday. So memorable, so fun, gorgeous (for it's time), full of action, intense story, drama...The perfect mobster game. Watching this review makes me want to play it again. Tom Angelo, you were a great man.
That part of the intro at the beginning, ahh... gave me the chills of desire, the desire to play this beaut' again. But eh, too damn old, being affected by outdated visuals is unavoidable; plus, I still remember most of the story, so I don't have a reason for replaying there. Hell, it's been 8 years. That's what Mafia II's been in the cooking pot for. Alas, I finished that sequel yesterday and I felt distinctly unsatisfied. The game is good, often times very good, but doesn't live up to the original. It brought in a few gameplay kinks but lost a lot along the way. The drama and the comedy in the story are more intense, I'll give it that, but it backfires when the ending comes about abruptly and you just wish the DLCs would continue the story from there. The way the DLCs are tiny Mafia diamonds buried in a ton of "arcade" rubble doesn't help. And it all brings me back to the nostalgia and longing for the feel of the original, enticing the desire to replay it again. From Illusion Softworks to 2K Czech. 'Nuff said.
it was better then mafia 2. mafia 2 was short and no end suprise so mafia 1 was better and if u want to see spoiler on maifa 2 there is a conction between mafia 1 and 2 in mafia 2 u get a misson to kill some old dude who once worked for the maifa and thay wanted him dead and if u finished mafia 1 u will see ur charcter get shot with a shotgun by...........
The bat's a reference to The Untouchables. De Niro playing baseball with some poor unfortunate goon's head. OT I may have to get this...
I remember playing this and really enjoying it. I never beat it but I still feel that it was one of the best games released back then. Cant wait to play the new one.
I miss Greg. I miss all the old reviewers. These new ones are kinda like zombies. Eh, I dunno. I miss these guys :'( Loved the first game, hope the second is really good.
Why's he holding a bat?!?!? Anyways, Mafia II has come along since its first go around. Can't wait for the next one.
this is the best game i have ever played in my whole life, i am waiting for its part 2 since 8 years and hoping that part 2 will take precedence over its predecessor,
Because I am stuck with an old AMD 3800+ and an Nvidia 6600, I am playing a lot of my old games again. I have to say that this game still is just as good and deserving of the legend that it attained. If you can get used to the old style Max Paine look than I recommend giving this one another play. Coming from a DX11 game and lots of DX10 was like going back to see an old film noir flick.
Mafia PC version is one of the best games of the 2000 decade and definitely the best of the 2000-2007 generation...
dude this was the best game i ever played at the time i was 9 still i love it and is the best game out there
my favorite game of all time when it came out it was beautiful its a classic in my book part 2 has been in the making for a while now it definitely be good at the least, i heard u can put bodies in the trunk that alone is badass
BenBenBen93, The game is unique for a few things: The most spectacularly told story in a game (best ending too), great shooting, and perfect car chases.
2002 wow looks Mint for then and what make it unique? (a real question and is not meant to be demeaning)
