Fantastic mob story, with several nods to some of the greatest gangster movies made within the last three decades. rnVito Scaletta (you) & his childhood buddy Joe Barbaro are working their way up the mob ladder, one hit at a time. All the money, power, freedom and woman are experienced along with the degrading lows of getting busted by the police and serving long-term jail sentences. All success taste of the bittersweet, as friends will show their true colors, get whacked, and even be federal agents. Mafia 2's story is told in epic mob-movie fashion, and truly deserves to be experienced by any fan of this genre.rnGamplay, while of the "sandbox" type (GTA/Saints Row), lacks the incentive to explore that one usually expects from an open-world game. Typical gameplay finds the protagonist woken up in the morning by a phone call, telling him to get dressed, bring a gun, & a fast car. Lack of being able to "go it alone" if you will, is not a negative for me, but definitely could be for others looking to fart-knock around the city. Gunfights are truly where Mafia 2 excels above and beyond. Cover-based shootouts are plenty and in various environments around the city. Many handguns, and machine guns are present and fun to use, but the absolute draw is the Tommy Gun. Nothing evokes "gangster lifestyle" more than ventilating a pig with a Tommy Gun!!! Cars are generally sluggish, as per the period and one would be generally hard-pressed to find their virtual dream-machine within Mafia 2. I played through the game's campaign mode on the hard difficulty setting, and it took me about 10-12hrs to complete.rnGraphics are beautiful and reflect the period.rnSound is absolutely brilliant. The voice acting is all AAA, and radio stations reflect the popular music of the time and even commercial's. Another brilliant addition is hearing about your exploits via a radio DJ cutting-in on usual programming to bring you "breaking news."rnNext up is all the downloadable content that came with my edition of the game.
