As the years past, school proved to be a hassle for Vito and he dropped out. Soon he and his friend Joe Barbaro took up petty crime around Empire Bay with dreams of being a real gangster one day. By now World War II had begun and the events of Mafia II take place during the 1940s and 1950s.

You play as Vito through missions that are quite fun and diverse. Expect Vito to bury bodies, break and enter, go to jail, and work for major crime families. You are able to choose your level of difficulty which adds some intensity to the game. The few times that Vito has to be a bare knuckled brawler brings a little authenticity to his rough up- bringing. The punches are clean and satisfying. When it's time to let the bullets fly, numerous gun shops are scattered around Empire Bay with a good variety of weapons available.

Between missions and even during, Vito will have opportunities to collect Wanted Posters, Playboy magazines, and steal and customize a wide variety of cars. Various clothing shops, diners, gas stations, and car wash services are all made available to Vito. The radio broadcasts and music are matched to the time period pretty good. Graphics are crisp and clean with cut scenes that add value to the game. One draw-back in Mafia II is that there should have been more activities for Joe and Vito to do together. Vito spends too much time alone.

Mafia II is good enough to buy and add to your crime games collection. Replay value is good.rn
