I know he's injured or whatever but he can't possibly play any worse than Mark Sanchez. Play just to see what he's got. If you don't play him, you go through the same thing next year if they don't release him. How are you going to find out if tebow is the answer if he sits on the bench. The jets have nothing to lose. Embarresed themselves all season and are out of playoff contention. Can't believe Sanchez is making 8 million dollars! Most overpaid player behind Michael Vick.

Should let GMAC finish the season so they can see what they've got with him.

Your probably right, everything I've heard from Peter King and Dan Patrick and all the NFL insider types says there won't be any trades popping up for him and the Jets will cut Tebow. Sanchez is due some serious cash, so he will stay.

I hate it because I'm a big Tebow fan and while I wasn't happy Denver traded him, I understood. I truly thought the Jets Offense would struggle and Tebow between week 8-10 would take over. And really they have struggles all but maybe the Buffalo game. I hope they cut him and he goes to Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa Bay (Florida connection), Oakland, Cleveland, or maybe Tennessee.

The Jags are probably the best fit location and need wise, but they might draft a QB in either Barkley or Geno Smith. Depending on their picks

Tebow is just a really bad quarterback. Greg McElroy is probably miles better than Tebow in the first place, so theres really no use in starting Tebow.

If Tim Tebow was any good, would Denver have been so quick to jettison him?

Because John Elway and John Fox didn't want him. Josh McDaniels had made the move to draft him, and they were stuck with him. He doesn't fit the traditional QB mold and elway couldn't stand it. It's just that Orton sucked and the fans wanted him. He beat the Steelers and had the defense held up he wouldn't have had to throw the game winner in OT.

The better Q is why did the Jets want him if he isn't any good, according to you, and why didn't they give him a chance after Sanchez failed?

Tebow isn't a bad QB, he's a bad passer. I don't like Tebow as a player that much, but he's the best option the Jets have on the roster.

Sanchez and Tebow have similar passing abilities. They both suck. They both will fail to hit 55% of their passes in most games. The biggest difference is Tebow doesn't turn over the ball whereas Sanchez does it and does it bad. Tebow clearly has the edge in running the ball as well.

Tebow is a decent QB in that regardless of how bad he throws, he won't make idiotic throws that get intercepted. As much as it pains me to say it, with Tebow at QB the Jets would probably be sitting pretty for a wild card.

McElroy is their best option. Proven winner, it'll never be his fault if you lose because he just doesn't make many mistakes, and he's probably the best choice for the fans in New York. Tebow is just gonna incite a media uproar, and Sanchez sucks.

Tebow hasn't been great as a passer, there is no doubt, but throughout the history of the league, young QBs haven't generally had great success. Manning thru for just over 56% and had more ints, 28, than TDs, 26. Tebow has never been given the starting spot from week 1, and never had the full faith of the staff above. No consistency in coordinators and a weak surrounding cast. How is he supposed to be great? I just want to see him get a fair shake.

If Week 13 proved anything, it's that I seriously facepalmed when I heard Sanchez was still starting. Didn't McElroy JUST save the team from a loss!? I might be looking short term, but Sanchez screwed up and looked really grumpy after being pulled. Why on Earth would I want that attitude starting a game when he got schooled by the 3rd string?

While you have a point, that point is only valid on paper (via stats). If you watch Tebow throw, he's horrendous.

I actually think that, if you see how the Jets coaches have handled it, the only person who really wanted Tim Tebow here all along was Woody Johnson, in hopes to sell some tickets. It's not a coincidence that the first game that Tebow isn't active is the one where he pulls Sanchez. The Jets and their fans were completely content with having Drew Stanton be the backup, until Tebow came available

I won't even try to argue that Tebow has looked bad, I had Sunday ticket last yr and watched all the Broncos games. He doesn't look comfortable throwing. But I truly believe it has more to do with confidence than ability. He wasnt a terrible passer in college. The whole changing of his throwing motion is what I think it all stems from.

Nonetheless the real argument is how much worse could he be than Sanchez. If he manages the game, makes smart throws, and runs effectively, he's already better.

I wouldn't say a 7-6 win is necessarily saving the day but hell, MacElroy won so I guess that says something.

It's not that he doesn't look comfortable throwing, it's his mechanics. People have taught him how to do it right, but his muscle memory keeps resetting back to his stupid ass way.
  • Dec 9, 2012 10:33 pm GMT
They won't put him in because they want to actually get something out of him at the end of the year.

If he gets hurt or a horrific Jets team makes him look to be an even worse passer than his reputation presents him to be, they won't get anything out of him.

And as someone else mentioned, the reason the Jets won't put Tebow in is because $8 million.

It's not just his mechanics either. He played his entire college career in a run-first shotgun spread offense. He still needs to learn how to read defenses from under center before his mechanics even matter.
