- Jan 8, 2013 5:37 pm GMTGet the first overall pick, the one position we actually need (which is quarterback) is the one position that absolutely SUCKS!!!!!! why can't there be an Andrew Luck or RG3 in this draft. Now I bet Andy Reid will get a sucky quarterback like Mike Vick or Alex Smith in free agency.

Why is it greed when you want to keep money you EARNED.
But it is not greed when the Government wants more of the money you EARNED. - Jan 8, 2013 8:22 pm GMTCan't always go by what Mel Kiper says. The draft will always have some overlooked players. Tom Brady was the second to last pick in his draft.

I think Vick is (was anyway) a great QB, but Reid would most definitely not bring him in. Alex Smith is a perfectly fine QB who got a pretty raw deal this season. But hes probably a "game managing" QB & we'd want a big play QB.
Geno Smith seems to be the most popular choice I see Chiefs fans throwing around, but I don't follow college football.
I feel bad for Cassel. Had a strong 2010 season, playoffs, pro bowl, & a commercial with Kenny Powers. Then a mostly injured 2011 season & the hilarious 2012 season... - Jan 9, 2013 1:14 am GMTMike Vick was never a bad quarterback, he just never had a line. I saw a few games where he would get hit HANDING THE BALL OFF THE SHADY LMAO. C'mon, nobody would be great if they had players in their face as soon as they snapped the ball.
Alex Smith isn't too bad but he's more of a game managing QB like the above poster said.
But back to the topic, ur right, there aren't any game changing "season changing" players like Luck or RGIII in this years draft.
I say the chiefs trade down for a few players and draft picks.

"A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." R.I.P Beleniel91 - Jan 9, 2013 6:39 am GMTDraft Tyler Wilson and be thrilled you got him. The guy got sloppy with his technique and footwork after essentially having no quarterbacks coach all season long, but he's a stud. He can put the ball anywhere on the field he damn well pleases, and you guys won't even need to protect him (seriously, his offensive line could have been convicted of attempted murder).
There's no quit in the guy, and as far as leadership aspects go, you won't find a better quarterback. His stock is going to steadily climb until April
Don't freak out just because the latest overhyped quarterback isn't overhyped. Trust Andy Reid, a pretty decent quarterback whisperer in his own right, to find you the right guy.

He is a good QB with experience with a run first offence but can also pass for those 3rd and long situations. We could than focus draft picks on the many high quality linen in the draft this year

In fact, now that Reid is in town, I wholly expect the Chiefs to go in a different direction for QB and pick someone up in the second or third rounds.

Brady actually had over 50 people drafted after him, but I agree with the first part.
Everyone said the Panthers had the worst year to have the #1 pick and Cam Newton turned out miles better than anyone ever expected. As a Panther fan I wouldn't take Luck or RG3 over having Newton.

Vick's always been overrated and always been a terrible passer.
I think Reid would be extremely wise to not run his PHI offense in KC, but instead get Smith and use a run-heavy offense with J. Charles and P. Hillis. That division is so weak that a turn-around could happen next season if they play their cards right. - Jan 9, 2013 1:31 pm GMTLet me get this straight.......
You kids expect Andy Reid to ride the running game???
Are you nuts???? Has he EVER had a balanced offensive attack? Has he ever had a 30 carry player in a game where they weren't killing clock?
Andy Reid is a 85/15 pass/run coach. He is going to throw the ball to the RB but don't expect him to be running tons of hand offs. It's just not his MO. - Jan 9, 2013 3:10 pm GMTI think the Chiefs have spent enough time on defense
2008 first round pick Glenn Dorsey
2009 first round pick Tyson Jackson
2010 first round and second round Eric Berry and Javier Arenas
2011 we got Jon Baldwin (who is a complete waste)
2012 first round pick Dontari Poe
Four out of our last five first round picks have been defensive... I say a WR or Luke Joeckel that OT from Texas A&M

Sure the Raiders and Chargers are a joke, and you can add the Chiefs to that list as well, but last I checked Peyton Manning is still in that division. The best the Chiefs can hope for is Peyton to retire or have another neck surgery. - Jan 9, 2013 8:28 pm GMTChiefs should trade back to 4 or 5 and take the best reciever to pair with bowe. Take a qb who had a lot of success in college but is somewhat raw in the 2nd round. Trade for Alex smith and let the rookie qb develop. In a couple years, the qb they drafted will be pretty good(look at Rodgers).

Vick can be dangerous though. He's got the fastest release I've ever seen and he's dangerous with his legs. He simply was stuck in a bad system for his skill set in Philly. Am I calling him a top ten QB? Hell no but I think Vick is perfectly viable for a starting quarterback in the league.
That being said, Reid will never go run heavy, but you will see a heavier running game here than you would in Philly. If Reid was smart, he'd pick up someone like Glennon or Wilson and sign/trade for Alex Smith and let his pick mature for a few years. Geno Smith isn't the answer and its gonna show itself in a few years if they take him.

Can they franchise tag him? Otherwise they should overpay Greg Jennings, who I'm not fond of but the chiefs need a #1 target. I think if the chiefs paid bowe well, he would stay. Money drives athletes and I bet if the highest offer comes from KC, he takes it.

Unless Joeckel has an incredible combine and just looks like the best OT in years, I don't think that's smart with the #1 pick. The Chiefs have a pretty decent OL to be the worst team in the league. There isn't a WR worth a #1 pick in this draft, might not be one worth a top 10 pick. I also think their defense is good enough to not need a player at #1.
I think the Chiefs are probably going to be stuck with Geno Smith/whoever is the #1 prospect by then. There's not a team that I can see willing to trade up to #1 with them and their biggest need is QB.
I know Fat Andy doesn't know how to use a balanced offense, but if he were smart he'd get Geno Smith and let him do some pistol formation plays that helped RG3 this year, plus hand the ball off to Charles and Hillis. I know he liked his pass-first offense in Philly, but if he expects to have success with the Chiefs roster the way it is now, he's going to have to be at least 45% run.

I know the Broncos look unstoppable, but I don't think they are. If the AFC West teams weren't such garbage the Broncos wouldn't have the #1 seed. One unfortunate injury to the QB/OL/defense could very well cause the Broncos to collapse.
However, I wasn't necessarily saying the Chiefs would win the division. They could fight for a WC given how bad the division is. The Chiefs are capable of competing, but with a few extra pieces and better coaching they could get a WC. 4 easy wins in the division (Oak/SD), maybe split a game with DEN, and they're a 5-1 team. They play the weak NFC East next season, so that should be at least 2-2 (assuming KC improves), and then they play AFC South, which should be at least 2-2 (HOU and IND are the only threats), and their two 4th place teams they play are CLE and BUF, an easy 2-0. That'd put them at 11-5. Anything's possible in the west.

Vick can be dangerous, but he can also be (more typically) mistake AND injury prone. He's not going to help the Chiefs. He always misses 5+ games per season, last season he was averaging over 2 turnovers per game at one point, and he's only had one season where he appeared to be a decent passer.
I think Geno Smith can be a younger, less injured version of Vick. I don't expect Smith to be a top 10 QB ever, but he's young, so he could possibly still be coached to improve, whereas Vick is as good as he'll ever be. At best, Vick gives you a 8-10 win season, then sucks there on. I think The Chiefs might be stuck picking Smith though. - Jan 11, 2013 3:51 pm GMTwhodeynotdat posted...

The only reason he would WANT to stay in KC is if we get a good QB
