A great racing shooter for the PSP with an old school influence.

When I looked at the preview and trailers for this game I instantly recognised it's major influence. That major Influence was a game called Slipstream 5000 that was released in 1995 by Gremlin Interactive.

One of the greatest strengths of this game is it's pickup and play arcade style. You can go for weeks without playing it, then pick it up again and instantly get back in to the game.

The graphics on this game are clean, sharp and in my opinion very impressive. The sense of speed you get which racing around is very impressive and as far as i've notice there are no frame rate issues.

M.A.C.H's sound effects are quite average, there's nothing that I can remember that stands out. The music isn't very good in my opinion. Some people might find the music good but it wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting a more rock kind of score like the music on the intro video.

The game is very easy for the first couple of tournaments but after that the difficulty jumps up. The hero tournament can be incredibly frustrating and at points I found myself having to evade three missiles in a row (maybe a little too hard).

The games has various weapons, such as the heat seeking missile, cluster rocket, mines and guns (guns are only available on dogfight levels). It also has Mach boost and stealth, which can't really be called weapons but they are used tactically. All the weapons are collectible items deposited around the race/dog flight arena just like in Slipstream 5000 or Wipeout.

The thing that really lets the game down is the lack of variety in the tracks. The developer tried to mask this by creating reversed courses, shorted courses and reversed shorted courses but I could still tell that I was playing the same level.

All in all M.A.C.H is a great game that has plenty of pickup and play arcade action. However the game needed a little more work in the sound department, it also needed more variety in weapons and tracks. Buy it!
