Story: Luigi's mansion is one of the few games with Mario's underated brother Luigi. In this game he wins a mansion in a contest he didn't even enter and doesn't expect anything to be wrong with it. Wow Luigi is not the sharpest tool in the shed but hey we still love him. When he enters the mansion he gets attacked by ghosts but is saved by an aged ghost hunter that I never bothered to care about cause he was annoying to me. No he was really annoying he would give you info when you are attacked or when it is to late. When Luigi returns to the mansion with a Poltergust 3000 (ghostbusters type weapon) to fight the ghosts he sees that peach has sent the toads to look for Mario at the mansion sense he was invited by Luigi. The toads work as the save posts and are happy to see Luigi cause they are not afraid when he is around. This idea of the toads going after only MARIO is dumb to me what Luigi is trapped in a mansion full of ghosts, boos, and the king boo himself, but Mario is missing for 5 hours and the entire mushroom kingdom goes ape ****
Gameplay: Luigi goes room to room fighting hoards of ghosts (only a few) that will come at him, like a beat em up where you have to beat them all to continue. You flash the flashlight on them and suck them up with the Poltergust 3000. When you are sucking them up you have to smash the C stick like crazy and pull the left analog stick in the opposite direction of the ghost. After you beat the room the lights go on and there a key will appear or you find it in the room then you go to the next room. Half way into the game boos will appear in rooms you have beaten, the boos are easy but when they get away into another room sometimes they go into a hall way that you have to walk two minutes to get to and then right when they see you go back into the other room is a real problem sometimes, sometimes they just disappear by glitch too. There are 23 bosses, most have something you have to do to get them to be suckable to get the flashlight to work, like sucking them when they are hit by a punching bag. The Poltergust 3000 also expells elements on elemental ghost and non elemental ghosts. You get the elements by sucking fire, water, or ice into the machine and expell with L trigger. The games has a health bar for luigi that when low cause him to scream for mario in a more scared voice when you tap the A button which is neat too.
Graphics: It looks wonderfully cartoony, everything that the flashlight hits gets a very realistic shadow effect and the boss ghosts have a lot of character put in them. Great graphics for the time Final thoughts:
There are a few problems with this game: 5 hours long, the hammering on the c stick breaks your controller, there is not an ending where mario finally says "luigi you are no longer in my shadow", maybe a little scary for little kids and some of the puzzles are hard to figure out.
The game is still enjoyable and is worth 10 dollars and maybe 15t, I paid 5 dolars for it and thought that was a bargain. So buy this game and help Luigi get out of mario's shadow for once
