Nintendo's idea of giving Luigi his own survival horror game wasn't such a bad idea after all.

User Rating: 8.5 | Luigi Mansion GC
Highs: Excellent music, decent controls, interesting story, great enemy ideas, ghostbuster-like gameplay is fantastic, very rewarding, a great survival horror game.

Lows: a borderline Resident Evil clone, too much backtracking, very few save points, can be very difficult.

Verdict: One of the most underrated A+ survival horror games out there.

Luigi. You never get any respect, do you? Your brother is always taking the spotlight away from you, and you're just an extra in the script of your brother's games. That just sucks, right? But now, you have your own game finally and there will be a sequel this coming June! It's Luigi's Mansion, released on the GameCube back in 2001. You play as Luigi, who won a Mansion in a contest that he never entered, as he enters not only his mansion that is filled with ghosts, but he enters the world of survival horror to defeat King Boo and his minions and rescue his brother from his grasp. When making a game that starred Luigi as the main character, Nintendo decided to make a survival horror game out of it, and is a very good survival horror game. As you enter the mansion, you are given your own weapon, a vaccum called the Poltergust 3000 that Professor E. Gadd created just for Luigi, as Luigi uses it to suck up all the ghosts and collect treasure that is scattered around the mansion. As you collect more treasure(some are in hidden areas, so look carefully or get a game guide or go online), the reward is greater as at the end of the game when Professor Gadd will build you a mansion on the site where the old one stood and at a certain size which depends on how much treasure you collect in the game, so look everywhere! This is a very good game, but there are some flaws. It is a borderline Resident Evil clone as it kind of controls and plays like a RE game, it takes a while to get used to the vaccum's controls as you will need to pull in a certain direction to suck up the ghosts, and there are some bosses that are near-impossible to beat. Overall, this is good, scary fun. Luigi's Mansion is a GameCube classic and a very good survival horror game and is worth picking up for a few bucks if you can get your hands on it. Check it out.
