Possibly the best racer you can get for the Nintendo 64.

F-Zero X is a fast-paced, arcade-styled racing game. There are a total of thirty racers in the single player mode (up to four in multiplayer). All of the different races are named after cards, like the Jack Cup, the Queen Cup, etc. There are plenty of courses to choose from with a good amount of variety to them. Courses are excellently designed, filled with tons of corkscrews, loops, and sharp turns. And with thirty racers on screen at once, it can get both challenging and chaotic. But it's that kind of chaotic action that makes F-Zero X so exciting to play. Each character you choose has it's own strengths and weaknesses, and when choosing one of your racers, you have the option to change the amount of top speed or acceleration to your liking. When you race, not only do you have to dodge various obstacles, but you would also need to keep an eye out on your energy meter, which not only depletes when you take damage, but also when you use your boost power. So you will have to be wise in when you will want to boost. This is also, bar none, the fastest game to grace the console. Your vehicle can reach speeds up to 1500 km/h. That superb sense of speed was truly ground-breaking for the system. The game is able to keep a surprisingly steady framerate even with a lot of stuff going on at once, especially with 30 vehicles in each stage. And that incredible sense of speed, along with 30 racers and twisted course designs, is what makes this game so great.
The aesthetics of F-Zero X may not be an excellent example of the N64's power, but its buttery smooth framerate is. The graphics are simple, but they get the job done. The game manages to convey a lot of bright colors, creative futuristic levels, and even shows off a cool comic book design. Even more impressive is the metal-heavy soundtrack that certainly gets the blood pumping and adds to the fast paced nature of the game.
-Basic graphical detail that still gets the job done
-A lot of well-designed courses
-Really challenging in the higher difficulties
If your out looking for a fun racing game, then this is definitely for you. How about a racing game with four player play? This has that as well. Perhaps a four player racing game that is extremely fun and has an incredible sense of speed? F-Zero X pretty much has you covered.
