Fun and charming with a catchy soundtrack

User Rating: 7 | LocoRoco PSP
Bit of an odd title name for a game on the PSP, LocoRoco are these colourful blobs that seem to sing a lot and is pretty much a basic simple platforming game for anyone who is new to gaming or something for their PSP.

The main plot for LocoRoco and the LocoRoco and their friends the Mui Mui, help grow vegetation and look after nature, making the planet a pleasant place to live, playing and singing. When suddenly the Moja Troop comes to the planet to take it over, the LocoRoco do not know how to fight against these invaders from outer space. So it's up to you to guide your LocoRoco and help save the planet from the Moja invaders.

Gameplay: Through each of the levels you'll be controlling your LocoRoco by simply tilting either left or right to slide down or make your LocoRoco roll where you want to go. If you press L and R together you can make your LocoRoco to jump and is the only attack you can use if there are any Moja's lurking by. If you see any red cherries be sure to pick em up to make your Loco grow bigger and bigger but if you press the Circle button your LocoRoco will split and you'll have little LocoRoco's on your screen or hold down the circle to join them together.

If you can manage to get your LocoRoco's towards the end of the level you'll be able to move to the next level, but if you lose all of them its game over and you would have to restart the level again. Certain levels you'll see certain characters or objects which require you to have a number of LocoRoco to make them sing and they'll give you something in return or lead you somewhere you can't reach. If you see any Mui Mui's be sure to rescue them if you can and they'll give you a reward of house pieces which can be used to build your house.

Graphics and Sound: When I say this game is colourful, I mean it is colourful and very cute to look at. Everything is in 2D which does make this a 2D platformer most of the levels you'll visit have a mix of different colours and themes such as Nature levels, Jungle, and Winter wonderland. You could say it feels more like watching a cartoon if you think about it but like I said the graphics and art are just wonderful.

The more you progress in the game you'll unlock more of LocoRoco's which have different colours from Yellow, Blue, Pink and Red and each of them have their own theme song. Most of the songs that the LocoRoco's sing are very catchy and great to listen too but later on or later you might get some of the tunes stuck in your head. With no other voice acting it's just plain text-dialog and basic sound effects being used over and over.

Overall: It's a shame that it's a little short which you can easily beat within a day or could you around 7 hours or more if you want to beat it in one sitting. But there's plenty of stuff to do once you've beaten the game you can either go back to other levels and get a higher score with the number of Loco's you have. Or build your house by using the materials you've collected from each of the levels you've been through, you can share your photos and show them to your friends and of course play through some mini-games which you'll unlock as you progress. I wouldn't say that's worth getting at full price but if you see this game dead cheap somewhere its worth checking out either on UMD or download from the Playstation Store.
