I doubt my thread will be any good because all I got was 'It's you, your opinion is invalid. No, I won't bother explaining why XIII is better.' so far.

Well, maybe you'll get more serious replies later, but with your posting history, who knows.

    That's their issue, not mine.

It's not like this is a troll thread or anything, I'm just voicing my opinion.

    Fine.

XIII's story was much better in my view due to the resticted structure of the first half of the game, I never felt the story lost pace, it was paced perfectly throughout. I also thought the story was much better overall in terms of quality, XIII-2's just focused to much on time travel for me to like it as much as XIII's.

The battle system was improved in XIII-2 by removing the annoying Paradigm shift animation etc, but the difficulty was pitiful XIII's had a much greater difficulty and posed a challenge in some areas for me such as the Cid fight and 2nd Orphan. My 7 year old sister managed to complete the entirety of XIII-2, with me helping her on two boss fights, that says it all.

The strategy was also taken out of the 2nd game, and I hated how Sab and Syn were extremely restricted with most of their buffs taken away from the game, it resulted in the same paradigms being reused over and over which you wouldn't have been able to do in XIII due to the role specific character structure, namely RAV RAV RAV, COM COM COM.

The characters were much better in XIII with the exception of Hope and Vanille, Lightning is my favourite of the series (obviously) Fang was yet another interesting character due to her motivations and uncertainty as to what to do for her focus, and Sazh was a loveable dad who provided great comedy and was just all round likeable. XIII-2 on the other hand had Serah, who was even worse than she was in XIII with stupid 'YAY LETS SAVE THE FUTURE' and other annoying dialogue whereas Noel was a decent character all round, and he began to grow on me towards the end of the game.

And I have to go, so that'll have to do till I get back.

The pacing is absolutely terrible for an RPG.
It's fight, cutscene, fight, cutscene, fight, cutscene.
That belongs in a modern shooter, not an RPG.

There was no difficulty in FFXIII at any point.
And even if you died, what does it matter?
You can just retry as if nothing happed.

Taken out? Was it ever in?
Yes, XIII-2 has less spells, but I don't see that as an issue.
Besides, there are monsters that can do that.

XIII has the worst cast in the series, tied with VIII.
Everyone except for Sazh is either extremely annoying, stupid or made me want to punch them in the face.
XIII-2 simply removed the bad characters.

I love FFXIII and like a lot FFXIII-2.

First of all i'll start saying that it's true that FFXIII-2 has improved in a lot of areas compared to the first game, but i still prefer FFXIII (by far) for different reasons:

Not only i liked a lot more the story in FFXIII,i also loved the cast of characters in the first game a lot more than Noel and Serah, and not only looking at the single characters, i liked a lot more their interaction between each others.........even if i found the monsters' idea interesting for gameplay, i would ALWAYS prefer actual characters.

Maybe for someone that may not be enough to consider FFXIII better than FFXIII-2, but for my personal taste character interaction is more than enough 'cause if i care more about the characters i care more about what happens to them and i enjoy more the game overall (simple as that).
I'm not saying that less characters is always worse, it's just that unfortunately not only FFXIII-2 had less characters, i also liked them less.........fortunately i won't have this problem with LR since Light is my fav character.

.....also imo the settings in FFXIII are a lot more evocative compared to the ones seen in the sequel.

My last little note is that FFXIII (the ps3 version) is clearly technically superior than FFXIII-2 and more cured in some little details......but before someone go crazy about this,i'll say clearly that for being an rpg FFXIII-2 is visually enough gorgeous as it is imo.

    - XIII's story overall was more solid than XIII-2.

    - I found XIII's multiple character arcs much more interesting than just the 2 in XIII-2.

    - 3X more playable characters.

    - The cover girl is playable for more than 2 minutes.

    - I prefer Eidolons over Monsters.

    - XIII does not end with the words "To Be Continued"

XIII-2 had faster-paced gameplay, that's pretty much it. Everything else compared to XIII was kind of a letdown.

It is true. I find XIII-2 to be superior in every aspect over XIII. However people who like XIII better are entitled to their opinon, I may not agree with it, but I will respect it.

    I don't get this, why?
Wouldn't you rather have a highly customizable monster than a non-customizable character?
During battles all they do is fight.
How much you like them doesn't influence anything.
