A bit of this. I've never understood the love for VI. It's not a bad game, but there are better RPG's out there.

    Typo or Misunderstanding?

    VI - 6

Most I'll just say is XIII is a far cry from quality games from Square and that you should reconsider playing some of the better installments.

Like someone else mentioned, they've shunned Type-0, which is easily one of their best FFs in recent times, they're shunning other IPs (if they haven't crapped all over them already, such as Parasite Eve), or they're ignoring new IPs that have a lot of potential (Bravely Default is probably one of their best games in a long time, albeit I've yet to finish it) to be good.

They have this odd incentive to keep the few quality games they've been pushing out to Japan-only, then wonder why no one likes the XIII sequels that obviously don't have much effort behind them and insist they think they know what people want.

But once again, it's your opinion on things.

I see that Vesperia still made Officefan feel pain.

Just to say: Symphonia, and especially Lloyd and Colette are WAY more cheesy than Vesperia, though I like both a lot. Not to mention, that the plot can be summed up as FFX meets Star Wars (the whole deal with Kratos, Lloyd and Mithos).
Presea and Regal might as well not be in the game, given how much they contribute except for a few scenes, and Genis is a way more annoying than people give him credit to be.

Or the character interaction, or the skits in general being somewhat dull, or the battle system feeling more and more archaic with every new Tales game released...

The OVA helped flesh out some characters though.

So yeah, nostalgia or a fool who doesn't know his games. Works too.

The earlier Final Fantasy titles are great rpg's for their era, especially Final Fantasy IV even though it went overboard with the melodrama. People are setting Final Fantasy way too high on a pedestal, just going to end up disappointed every time.

Since TC didn't go into detail why he is excited for this game, I'll give mine. Mostly from what i've seen from the battle system, and customization which is one of my favorite things to do in a rpg. If this game delivers on game content, I'll be satisfied with my play experience.

not taking this topic serious. im laughing at the fact that the topic creator thinks tales of symphonia is the best rpg ever. it was the cheesiest of them all. lloyd was a wannabe cless. id say tales of destiny. that game had stahn and even if it had its "cheesy" moments the gameplay was addicting. also the music was great.

    Good for you, TC.

That's not going to spoil my own hundreds of hours in the company of great, great games like FFVI.

I haven't had the best experiences with Final Fantasy games.

The first ones I got were the PSP ports of Final Fantasy I and II, they were such a yawn fest that I got so bored within 2 hours.

I later got Final Fantasy X-2 on the PS2 and didn't care for it much either. (I enjoyed it slightly more because the battle system was more enjoyable)

Later I heard it was SO AWESOME so i bought the final fantasy game with Terra in it (Final Fantasy VI I think) on the PSN Store, It quickly bored me too.

I got Final Fantasy IV on the PSP and once again I was bored to death by how dull it was.

After that I put Final Fantasy down for a long while, and I wasn't interested in XIII-2 at first because I had heard a bunch of people on the internet say it sucked.

It's amazing, it's the most fun I've had with an RPG in a long time (Tales of Symphonia was the last RPG I played that was this memorable)

I heard XIII wasn't as good, but I'm gonna buy it anyway because I can get a new copy for less than $20 and hopefully I'll enjoy it too. From the little I've seen of Lightning I really like her (Might be because her Serah and Noel are the first Final Fantasy characters I've given two ****s about.)

I'm really looking forward to playing as Lightning again :3 (I wonder what excuse Sqeenix will use to explain Lightning going to level 1 :/)

From the sounds of things, I'd say you're not a person who likes turn based games very much and if such is the case I'd actually like to know what pulled you into FF in the first place?

Following that question, I'd recommend to you the Kingdom Hearts series (the games typically starts out kinda slow, but picks up the pace rather quickly, and with the upcoming re-release you might not even need to get the games for the PS2)...

Amongst Final Fantasy games I'd also recommend Final Fantasy versus XIII (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiIx9VJWSl8) if that game ever manages to hit the shelves... *looks at my sig, weeps*

Finally I'm contractually bound to Hazama/Terumi Yuuki, who owes my soul and free will, to recommend to you the BlazBlue series. If you want to enjoy the entirety of the BB story, I'd recommend you to get Calamity Trigger first and then Continuum Shift Extend, but if you just want the action you should just buy Continuum Shift Extend (which contains an abridged version of the story from Calamity Trigger anyway).

If you're not a traditional JRPG fan, the XIII series is definitely a bit more engaging gameplay-wise, so if you can get past the crappy characters and "only alright" storyline, it really is a fun game.

When a series starts appealing to people who usually don't like it, you know there's something wrong.
