Except for WKC, I don't know what you're talking about.
Dark Cloud 1 and 2 didn't have good stories (though 2 had some interesting sub-plots) and Rogue Galaxy was extremely weak and cliche in the story department. I haven't bought Ni No Kuni yet, but a lot of people are saying that it's just not very good, and it's "very much a Level-5 story."
I have to agree, L-5 stories aren't that great. They're not, however, completely stupid and insulting. I have to say I would prefer an L-5 quality story over another abortion of a plot that Toriyama or SE thinks can be saved by plugging Lightning into it.
I'd have to agree as well. I honestly cannot figure out why Toriyama still has a job at Square Enix. I'm guessing that he's related to one of the higher-ups or something.
I'm sure someone will say "You may hate him, but all of his games sell well!!!" Well, yeah, look at the damn company he's working for and the IP's he gets to work with. Front Mission, Parasite Eve, Final Fantasy... of course they'd at least sell "okay." Would the games have better sales if someone else was in charge and someone else was writing the story? Without a doubt in my mind, yes. Reputation and word-of-mouth matters.
