User Rating: 7.9 | Legacy of Kain: Defiance PS2
I couldn't wait for the next Legacy Of Kain/Soul Reaver game after beating Soul Reaver 1 & 2 to see what happens next in the story. I must say gamespot were pretty rough on the score. 6.9 is WAY too low, but they do have some legitamate point when they point out the flaws the game has. Yes, the camera angles do get annoying and this cinematic style wasn't very well executed. And yes, it was a little disappointing that Raziel and Kain were played pretty much the same given their different nature/abilities. This is one of the point that should have been exploited to make the gameplay more varied and interesting. I also must say if they put more time, effort and thought into it, they could have made a much better game, but, strictly in terms of gameplay. The Legacy Of Kain/Soul Reaver series has always had very well scripted stories, amazing voice acting and good graphics. As far as these aspects of the game go, I surely wasn't disappointed. But the game is still fun enough to play as long as it last and doesn't get too monotonous. I'm glad they made the improved combat system. I always thought that incorporating the combat system of Devil May Cry with Soul Reaver would have made it a much better game and that's exactly what they did. There's still alot of room for improvement but they didn't do too bad a job eigther. I would definetly recommend that you rent this game and if you, like me, really dig Raziel, Kain and the story line of the seires, then this game is worth a purchase. I just hope they do a much better job with the next game as far as gameplay goes. Too bad we won't be seeying more of Raziel. :(
