Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a fun romp, but novice puzzlers beware!

User Rating: 6.5 | Legacy of Kain: Defiance XBOX
Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a fun game, the first level introduces you to Kain's controls, which are a breeze to learn, and is filled with enemies to suck the blood of. Then, you get to the second level, and a puzzle befalls you that seems nigh impossible. I have yet to make it past this puzzle, but once I do, I can give a more thorough review. The game is full of great, melodic music that swells with the action, just like any other Legacy of Kain game. This game is good right from the start, but it tapers off once you get to the second level, where you have to get Razeil out of the spirit realm to escape this gas that the Order God leaves, and you have NO IDEA where to go. You try going up, but you get to a point where there's no platforms in front of you, and you have a platform above you, but you can't hold on to it. W...T...F!? Why can't you hoist yourself up? The same issue pops up in Blood Omen 2, where it takes a long time to hoist yourself to where you want, not where the game wants. This is a stagnant issue that appears in every Kain game after Soul Reaver 2, which this game follows after. I give this game a 6.5, for being great until a staggeringly hard, puzzling platform hop.
