- Nov 27, 2012 7:34 pm GMTI always really liked the opening to SR1.
(SPOILERS FOR REST OF POST, YOU WARNED)
Here's some of my favorite parts of each game:
BO:
The item descriptions mostly
Revisiting the tavern with the wolf transformation
SR1:
Opening
Melchiah's Death
Visiting the human town
BO2:
Umah's Death
Kart race mini-game
SR2:
Kain's edge of the coin speech
Finding out why Malak was late
Raziel antagonizing Ariel
"I renounce you."
Defiance:
The exchange between the sarafan and Kain at the beginning. Some along the lines of:
"Surrender fiend and we will grant you a quick death". And Kain says something like: "I could promise you the same, but it would be a lie."
Kain's hope speech at the end

PSN: yavigril - Nov 27, 2012 7:48 pm GMTBO:
Kain's item/spell descriptions
Moebius' death
"... thin the herd."
SR1:
Opening
Both Raz/Kain confrontations.
BO2:
Finding Sebastian.
Meeting with Vorador and Janos.
SR2:
Everything with Moebius.
Raziel taunting EG.
"History abhors paradox."
Defiance:
Everything with Moebius
"What love of doors these pathetic humans have."
Scratch that, the whole Cathedral bit with Kain.
The ending.

Prediction: ManShep = canon, the next protagonist goes with Shep in search of origins of the Reapers, Shep killed like a punk in Mass Effect Online Republic. - Nov 27, 2012 8:15 pm GMTBO1:
The descriptions (yeah, original)
Elzevir the Doll Maker (for some reason this NPC is something I'll always remember about BO)
Everything with Vorador
The time travel
Being really confused in the beginning (I played BO after SR2, so Tony Jay talking to Kain in the beginning, I took for EG, rather than Mortanious)
SR1:
"Raziel, you are worthy"
Seeing Nurpator's retreat again
Visiting the Sarafan graves
The battle with Rahab (my favourite boss fight)
The final cinematic
SR2:
Kain's speech about the coin and everything referencing it
Seeing Vorador again
Everything from after the fire forge until the end.
"History abhors a paradox"
BO2:
The boss fights
The stealth kills
Some of the grab attacks
Defiance:
A lot of Kain's one liners - I mean seriously, Kain just delivers devastating one liners, but because it's Kain they both sound better and more serious. "I always was considered heartless."
Vorador
Hash'ak'gik
The Avernus Cathedral fight
"You don't know where it is, do you? -- you never looked for it."
"Vae Victis"
Everything after the demon realm.
Moebius getting pwned.
Raziel following up on a thing he said in SR2 and showing Moebius he worshipped a giant squid. Then pwning him.
Raziel's sacrifice
The speech about hope.

Kane at the Pillars
Fighting your brothers again
Meeting the Elder God
Meeting Vorador
BO2
Meeting Vorador
Meeting your contact at the pub. I loved the towns in this game
I feel horrible for saying this, but I forgot the name of the boss you fight in the cathedral.
Defiance
Mobius getting killed twice in a row
"Impossible for any man"
Defeating the Elder God
End game cinematic
Avernus Cathedral
Raziel's Sacrifice
Kain visiting the Pillars
I didn't play BO1, and didn't play enough of SR1 to comment.

Snitsky's Condoms. If she gets pregnant, it's not your fault
- Nov 30, 2012 10:53 am GMTBO:
- plethora of spells/items/magic
- open world gameplay
- secrets (especially Lost City)
-descriptions of items/weapons/magic
- Fire Sword!
SR:
- opening cinematic
- game manual (games today have the most worthless manuals that come with them!)
- sandbox/open world gameplay (to an extent)
- silenced cathedral
- sarafan epiphany
- Kain confrontations
- seeing Nupraptor's retreat again
- seeing Oracle's cave again
SR2:
- every part with Kain in it
- seeing Vorador again
- all the murals
- everything from Janos til the end
- voices of Black Demons (all demons simply talking)
BO2:
- stealth kills/full mist ability
- using several different types of weapons
- different aspect of Hylden and a few murals in Hylden City
- seeing Janos again
Defiance:
- all the murals
- seeing Avernus again (and the battles between Kain/Raz and Raz/Turel)
- seeing Janos and Vorador again
- TK abilities - Dec 3, 2012 8:16 am GMTThe.culminating battle between Kain and Razzie. That's what I have been waiting for since Soul Reaver.
- Dec 3, 2012 2:27 pm GMTso hard to choose so many great choices. i need to replay the series before i say as i need a refresher.

We each play out the parts Fate has written for us. Free will is an Illusion. - Kain - Dec 5, 2012 6:51 am GMTGot too many. But just some quick ones:
BO:
When that jester guy was like, "The king sees no one. He is in mourn for the princess," and Kain picks him and responds, "He'll be in mourn for his kingdom soon. And he'll be in mourn for you even sooner if you don't get outta my way!" Then he tosses him and the guy is like, "Oooo!" lol
BO2:
When the first vampire boss is spying on Kain. The guy Kain is talking to says something like, "There's thiefs ahead that will attack you on site." Kain responds, "Then they will die."
SR1:
The cinematic where Raziel stands in front of the lair where Kain is in the very beginning and the Elder God is talking to him. Just how the music is playing and then we get a cut to Raziel standing looking to either his right or left, then he just looks forward. Dunno why, but I always find that badass.
SR2:
The whole end part.
Defiance:
Kain vs. Raziel, particularly when you're Raziel simply because the SR1 theme plays. The BO2 theme plays when Kain and I don't find that song as good.

The.culminating battle between Kain and Razzie. That's what I have been waiting for since Soul Reaver.
As crazy as this sounds, this was when I decided I wanted to play this series. The trailer I saw for Defiance got me hooked and has been the only game so far that I have fully played through. One of my friends got me into the series before this and I had plenty of knowledge of it since I had seen my friend play and played a little of his copies. Even though I never finished or owned of the games prior at the time, I had to find out what the conclusion would be when those two would square off. Now I have all of them, but haven't gotten around to finishing them, though, I have spoiled many of the story since the story in itself was what drew me in to begin with.
I think a lot of people were waiting for this one since the first SR game came out. I remember talking to my buddy about it with so much anticipation. Man I got to do a full 5 game playthrough start to finish one these days very soon.
Would you guys suggest I just do BO, BO2, SR, SR2, Defiance? Or do them in release order BO, SR, BO2, SR2, Defiance?

"Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday!" - Dec 22, 2012 8:34 pm GMTI think some people will disagree, but I recommend playing them in their release order. Some people will say to play BO2 after Defiance though.
Good luck trying to get Blood Omen to work though.

Yeah, release order. Doesn't matter too much, though, mostly Defiance provides a better ending and better experience from the final game.

We do what we must / because we can. / For the good of all of us. / Except the ones who are dead. - Dec 26, 2012 8:20 am GMTYeah, Play in release order. Some of the stuff in BO:2 are caused by the stuff in Defiance, but if you play it in order, it will make a little more sense, plus it ends on a high note. Honestly, they should have just ignored BO:2 and make it a spin off that doesn't relate to the main plot.

Snitsky's Condoms. If she gets pregnant, it's not your fault
- Dec 26, 2012 8:34 am GMTif you play them in release order, most of the events of BO2 won't make any sense. Certain characters who died in previous games suddenly show up in BO2 without any explanation or even acknowledgement that they're back. Defiance fixes most of that, and puts most of BO2 into context.
If you play them in release order, you'll see the frustrations fans had when it came out (story wise) and have the luxury of playing Defiance right away. But honestly, most fans, including me, would recommend you play Defiance before BO2.

While that is true, I'd still prefer if people finished with Defiance, just because BO2 makes for a worst finish of the series (so far. Come on, we're getting a new game, right? Right? I asked Santa for one after all).

Snitsky's Condoms. If she gets pregnant, it's not your fault
- Jan 16, 2013 2:01 pm GMTWell.... since I've already beaten Defiance before, then I think I'll understand BO2 if I just play in release order. Thank you all for the feedback. I remember getting stuck in the beginning of BO, so we'll see how that one goes. I might have to be consulting some guides for the earlier games, I'll try not to for SR, since a lot of the appeal to that game is the puzzles. And I did enjoy that while playing as Raziel in Defiance.

or even better, don't play BO2 at all and just watch the cinematics on youtube
i love legacy of kain and all, but i don't think it's right to support a game where they just slapped the legacy of kain characters onto a cancelled game engine (chakan) and then tried to sell it to existing fans w/ emo/goth motif
good lord what an awful game that was

Um...hate to tell you but that's how Soul Reaver was made. It was Shifter before they decided to throw Legacy of Kain into it.

Here is my sig - Feb 8, 2013 10:59 am GMTSR2 - the coin speech.
It was the beginning of Kain's redemption. Without introducing any new characters or revealing any new events, it completely changes the player's perspective of the story.
It doesn't deny that Kain's actions at the end of BO or beginning of SR were selfish and arrogant. It doesn't even suggest he's given those traits up. In fact, it's extremely arrogant to think you can beat a rigged game. This makes the twist completely acceptable. Making the villain into a misunderstood hero is a horrible cliche, but this speech made it work. The grand implications of the idea make the player happily accept the fact that Raziel was just robbed the chance at retribution, closure. It was the best writing I've ever seen in a game.
