I have many memories of coming particularly for the FAQs of games when I was trying to do a 100% completion run of a game, or if I just plain got stuck. GFAQs has been in a decline with the trend of most games having their own wiki or other resources. For LoL, everyone knows to go to Solomid or ReignofGaming or even Reddit when looking for resources.

And looking at our resources, it's no wonder why. One of our three champion guides was written by Odd One when he still played AP carries. >_>

The last update in the FAQ section was in late 2011.

I'd like this to change, but I'm not sure on the best approach, and was looking for opinions

One simpler idea I had was to have a contest in the boards where we select the most informative and general "best" guides for each particular champion. Then we get permission from each of those authors to rehost their guide in plain text in OUR FAQs section. We could try to maintain our own 'best of the best' guides selection here.

Another idea is to get some general threads started for general FAQs. The Dominion FAQ isn't half bad when you lookhow iit's written. We could do for more guides on general guidelines for other maps.

The last idea I had was to come up with an "itinerary" for how to approach the game as a new player. For instance we wouldsay to (after the practice games the LoL client has you go to) tell the player to go into a custom game entirely by themselves with a free week ADC (we'd have to maintain a list in the FAQ.) and practice last hitting until they can hit some benchmark cs in a certain time from just one lane. Then moveon to doing similar against a bot, and so on and so forth.

Honestly the only reason to come to GFAQs is the board for a quick question, and looking at our particular community, our helpfulness is shoddy at best. What do you say, is this something we can organize?

How about: rather than making a huge post complaining about it, you write a guide and contribute to make things better. This is a site based on contributions by users.

And for the record, I advocate a rehosting of plain text guides not JUST so we can have something reliable in our FAQs section, but also because mods won't sticky a thread solely consisting of links to other places. So we can't just have a sticky resource of where to find things.

How about it'd be a big project and we're supposed to be a community. Your attitude is the exact reason why we have absolutely nothing. Maybe I am working on a guide, but I'm no diamond Elo player, and quality is better when checked by masses.

Honestly, what's the point of your post? Way to contribute.

Or we could leave things the way they are and we guide players our way.
Even if there's a guide, a sticky topic or whatsoever, PEOPLE WILL CREATE THREADS ASKING.
So, just leave as it is.
    The end
    Have a nice day

Are there requirements to getting a faqs up? Also a sticky? I recently created an account(few months ago) but like you I used to look at guides, mainly for console RPGs. MOBA is a different beast entirely as the meta game changes quite quickly and the guides would have to be updated frequently, as the game is not static.

I try to contribute as much as I can through threads but I never thought of doing a faqs or sticky. I am interested how you go about forming them.

A good guide to start with is how to get out / carry yourself out of elo he'll. That's what most people complain. You can start with the basics of being competent and playing safe to start with or something. So, you know, more players dont instafeed -> RQ/drag down the rest of the team. Just shooting idears here.

I believe pretty much anyone can create a FAQ. I haven't ever submitted one myself though, so I'm not sure if there is a quality ensured method or if you have to be accepted and whatnot.

I have written multiple sticky threads for boards before. (Sadly, I think all but my Golden Sun sticky have been updated by someone else, and thus my name has disappeared as far as credit goes.) Stickies have to be requested by multiple users (I think you gain the ability to request a thread is stickied at 30, under the OP's message detail). The sticky then is reviewed by a moderator to ensure that it is relevant and useful.

As I said before, mods do not accept stickies that are just link dumps, as they want the information to be contained in the thread itself. Otherwise, as long as it is pertinent information that people can use and thus cuts down on redundant topic creation, it will be accepted.

StarCraft used to have a "How to deal with Ladder Fear" sticky which is pretty much what you're talking about. I feel it'd be important to disregard theterm Elo Hell, but whatever works!

And that is probably something more suitable to a Sticky thread sort of deal, rather than a FAQ, just so people could contribute success stories and the such.

That's one thing I'd just like to link to other resources, like Gbays videos, but we could reference them as more in depth discussions of particular ideas!

Gotenks had a guide going earlier and he was constantly having it checked and revised by other board members. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same; I even implore you too.

And where is that guide? Somewhere else. Ask him if he ever thought of posting that guide here. I sincerely doubt it. The point of my large "complaining" post isn't about lack of guides, it's about GFAQs having a complete lack of resources. While I can contribute with a single guide, it's not going to do much for anyone at this point.

Hence community helping to bring a vast variety of things.

    Hence topic.

I wrote several information pieces from pursuing advantages, jungling, split pushing, and game mechanics in a few topics. If you'd like to include them please let me know. Just search under: "LOL Breakdown 101: Tip" I believe I wrote from tips 1 to 8 so far. Let me know if you would like to include them. I could also revise them to be a little clearer too^^
