L.A Rush is the latest installment of Midway's Rush franchise, made famous for over the top jumps and great sense of speed. This game has been toned down a bit to seem more realistic, but that is no bad thing. L.A is huge and quite realistic, with plenty of jumps hidden away, whilst others are more obvious. But a brilliant feature of this game is the environment and car damage: No game before or since has been relatively realistic, but lets you trash the real-world (and fake) cars that are present in L.A Rush, as well as damaging miles of fences and even destroying a ferris wheel! Although there are some inconsistent moments, for a racing game, the damage is great.
There are lots of cars. Motly real, but some fakes that Midway calls "Concepts". Good way around it. You win the real cars back by tip offs from your rival who stole them's girlfriend. The story isn't great and most of the time you just race, but there are some nice cutscenes. The racing itself is fun, with realistic handling and speed in every car, but you will often find yourself totalled because of the huge amount of traffic and police. When this happens, you get your car completely fixed after a cool slo-mo crash scene.
The multiplayer is pretty dull, though, but the best thing about L.A Rush is the free-roam. You can do this in free-play or career, and just cruise through the urban jungle that is LA, with plenty of police cars on your tail. There are loads, but they are pretty dumb, so they are quite funny to watch sometimes.

Overall, L.A Rush is great to spend time exploring, but the carrer and split-screen are quite dull.
