@Siddysss carolyn is a women, not that matters (and is certainly not as urgent as you make it sound...). are you being an intentional a$$hat or just ignorant? she is trans (though regardless, that is a rude and inappropriate question --er, rather, "demand" may be more accurate considering your punctuation).

Hey opinions are like @$$h013$. Everbody has one. And I still stand by mine almost 2 years later.  If you have qualms about Carolyn,Greg, or others reviews/opinion's you can always go elsewhere and find one that suits you. :) Have a nice day!

So much comment censorship. Countless dozens of voices silenced and criticisms ignored. GameSpot moderators should be ashamed. Not as much as they should be ashamed for hiring Makuch and Petit in the first place, but still ashamed nonetheless.

@StinkySkunkGirl i just want to say thank to the GS mods for undoubtedly weeding out a massive amount of transphobia that i'm sure clogged the comments section. there's still a little sweeping up to do, but all and all i really appreciate being able to read through the comments w/o being bombarded with oppressive trash.

it's too bad people like this still get away with saying this crap... "ashamed for hiring petit" huh... i wonder why this user thinks that. but i'm sure they can't answer here because it would be some hateful, transphobic BS that would definitely (thankfully) be "censored."

it was one of those types of games that are easily beatable and also hard to play.

Loved this game till I found out no matter what you do you get the same person. I actually tried to get all the clues to make sure I got the right person, my brother did everything wrong on purpose still got the same guy.

@penntogramus if you don't like HER voice, read it.

mishdogg

@QueerGamersXist@penntogramusAre you Carolyn's lawyer or something? Yea, Carolyn looks like a guy to most of us and if that's a problem, it's certainly not our fault for assuming that.  Some people don't eve know what 'trans' means.  And those who do may not recognize Carolyn as trans, but simply as a guy with a high pitched voice.  I'm not defending certain hateful comments, but simply making the wrong assumption about his / her gender is not breaking any laws.  When we come to GS we're not expected to know which one of the staff is trans or not, but we can certainly comment on the quality and presentation of the review which may be affected by the appearance or speech of the reviewer.   GS should take these things into consideration, if they even care what the viewers think.

So QueerGamersXist you need to chill.

mishdogg
mishdogg

@QueerGamersXist@mishdogg I agree to an extent.  It's true that doing your homework before commenting may help avoid sounding ignorant.

BUT, out of all the GS visitors who come to watch game reviews, how many do you think care to find out the name of the reviewer?  Many just watch the video and, if they feel strongly about it, just post a comment without even suspecting what Carolyn's gender may or may not be.  It's not like the viewers are responsible to know the names of GS staff.  Until recently GS didn't even post the name.  If you go to IGN you're not gonna see reviewer names under the video.  And they don't have to post them.

If you read closely, what penntogramus said is that he just "can't take this guy's voice." without mentioning anything about gender.  Why should penntogramus be blamed for not knowing the reviewer's name, or for having a very normal stereotype of what males and females look like?  He never suspected that Carolyn isn't a guy to begin with.

QueerGamersXist
QueerGamersXist

@mishdogg no, i'm obvs not her lawyer, just another trans person sick of seeing sh** like this here. fyi, making assumptions about anyone's gender is actually wrong, rude, and unnecessary. and of course you can comment on the quality of the review, but you can also take proper time to respect who you are talking about - ie if you are going to use gender as a marker at all, noting that her name is carolyn, for instance.

A great review that hits the specific niggles I was having a tough time quantifying...

The art direction is incredible and, as mentioned, the facial mapping is phenomenally good (you'll easily recognize multiple character actors from various television shows from their models -- it's just that good).

But, after many stellar (and expected/clichéd) "mini-sodes,"  the game becomes something of a slog-fest. Same process; same relatively disconnected mini cases. As a fan of the overall genre (book/film/era) it's hard for me not to love this game, but it falls short when it comes to... what? Pacing, I guess.

It is A. Very. Slow. Game. Nothing wrong with that, per se, just be forewarned. The main storyline, while compelling, is haphazardly applied. (Look to something like The Last Express for ways to do this right.)

Still, love it. Wish there was more to come...

It's a fun game, the city looks great and is huge, it's plain fun to just do some cases every now and then and slowly progress through the game.

Don't read too much in the comments to avoid spoilers if you have yet to play it.

People are happily posting story events here..

As other commentors pointed out, what's the point of it if every guy you conclude is guilty turns out to be framed? This is hardly the time and place for the game producers to go for a fake-out ending - it's a game, not a film, guys. And the disgusting way they did stuff like having investigators grabbing at all the weapons and other evidence left behind with their bare hands - thereby erasing crooks' fingerprints and adding the cops' fingerprints was just plain dumb. Thanks but I'll wait for the rumored part 2, and hope it doesn't make the same mistakes.

@knight_light Its set in 1947?? They didn't exactly have the same forensic standards we do now.

I finished the game on PC a while ago and I must say that this review is quite accurate. I like how you point out the fact that when you solve a case you somehow feel that you didn't do it right. Although Minishdriveby is right about the interrogation options, i consider that the story overcomes it with its complexity and twists.

Thank you for a job well done.

I really hated this game it was just way to boring for me. Great review I just disagree with the rating.  Also, to the people making wise ass comments about Carolyn grow up, just grow up.

The reviewer should have talked more about the inconsistencies of interrogation. For example, if you don't have evidence, but know someone is lying then you should obviously pick the doubt button. However, this is the wrong answer sometimes. Okay, so maybe they are telling the truth? No! So then they must be lying... I have no evidence though which means this question I can't get right no matter what. Because I didn't visit a location yet which no one told me was top priority, I literally failed the interview. The truth option is also off putting, seeing as a person can be telling the truth, and you still get it wrong because they withheld a small detail. They of course were not out right lying, so the doubt option shouldn't have been correct. This happens far too often when interrogating. The questions asked are too vague, and the options to answer are limited to just 3 words, 'truth,' 'doubt,' and 'lie.' It's a good game. But the reviewers excitement for this game that had been building up over the past 5 years, listen to the hotspot, has clouded her judgement on a very flawed system. In defense of the review, the setting and atmosphere are superb.

So far, I disagree with everything said here. It is an overrated game. It's enjoyable, but not a superb experience by any means. It's closer to The Dragnet series than a film noir classic. A lot of potential here, but not realised at all. Despite all that it is worth playing.

Who cares that the reviewer is transgender, Some people here need to grow up. They are still a human being, sure it came as a shock to me too but I don't spew my thoughts all over the internet. I keep them and my opinions on such matters to myself like the rest of you should. Now enjoy the review because it's actually good

Most overrated game this year. No not because I don't like the style they have gone for, in fact I love it, that is why I was so disappointed. They totally messed up a great idea that could have worked extremely well. Not saying its terrible but it missed the mark because of one thing they did with the game which for me totally negated everything that they did well. I will explain but beware...SPOILER ALERT... The murder cases should have been the best in the game and they try to be. But you always end up with a couple of suspects and have to pick one even though its obvious that neither of them did it from the evidence you've collected. I know they were trying to make the story more twisting by bringing it out at the end that all the murders were linked and everyone you had caught had been framed but what is the point scouring for evidence when you know that there is no possible way you can find, let alone convict, the right person. And what makes it worse is that when you do pick one of the suspects despite knowing they're innocent you're boss will be mad at you or praise you depending on if you picked the "right one" ie the person he dislikes the most. That totally took the intrigue away and I found myself just choosing one then going back to my save and swapping if I was "wrong". Whats the point in placing clever clues for you to follow if the games already decided you aren't going to find the right guy no matter what, a waste of a potentially great formula

@TommyT456 Agreed, could have been a lot better but I still like the game.

@brookysukiwhy. does. it. effing. matter.? !?! if i had a nickel for every time i see that question on this site... well, lets just say my game "wish list" on here would be a helluva lot smaller.

and just to throw you a bone, carolyn is a woman. her name is a good clue. and the myriad of other times that question has been answered on this very page. and her own gd words right here on GS http://www.gamespot.com/users/carolynmichelle/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25928100&tag=all-about;blog1

The tech Team Bondi used for L.A. Noire was utterly AMAZING!!! I would've loved to see that implemented in next gen games.

Great game. And here's one developer who doesn't **** up the PS3 version of a game, but instead has tried to actually make it polished.

i really enjoyed this game, but i kinda felt like they missed the trick a little bit. yeah the facial animations were amazing, and the story was classy and gripping. but i kinda felt that a massive, open world environment as interesting as this should have had more to do, and more reasons to explore it. the film reels, cars and little side missions didnt cut it for me.
