Konami's arcade games return in this wonderful package

User Rating: 8.5 | Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits DS
Konami is a name that many old-school gamers refer to when describing the likes of Contra and Castlevania and the like. This compilation is one of the best you will find on DS. It features some of Konami's more popular arcade games from the 80's and early 90's. However, you wont fall in love with every single game on this cart though. For this review, ill be scoring each game out of 5 Punk Points. I use this system when I review compilation games. So get used to it. Ill also be doing a short sumary on each game. Ok here we go!

Scramble: A space shoot-em-up that is the predecessor to Nemisis. Another popular arcade game (Which unfortunatley is not on this cart.) Scramble has annoying sound, but it is fun while it lasts. But you wont be coming back to it. Score: 3/5

Horror Maze: Better known as Tutankham. In this you play as a treasure hunter who is in the pyramids searching for treasure. It has unfreindly controls, is very hard, and does not have much music. Score: 3/5

Pooyan: This is a hart-warming horizontal shooter, you play as a pig called Mama who needs to rescue her baby pigs (Pooyans) from the hungary wolves. Surprisingly, this has more of a medium difficulty. But it's kinda repetitive.
Score: 4/5

Time Piolet: Now this is classic. You play as Time Piolet. A guy who can travel through time. You start the game in 1910 and work your way up the timeline. Its fun, addictive, but not that difficult
4/5

Track and Field: Lots of people now about this, if you want a more wholesome version of this, grab a copy of New International Track and Field (serriously do it, its great.) anyway this game is fun. But fails to grab the gold with hard controls, and some overley difficult events.
3/5

Roc 'N Rope: This is hard, fun and just addictive. You control a mountain climbing guy who is after the legendary bird Roc. You need to avoid cavemen, crocodiles and dinsaurs. Its fun, has catchy music, but the rope is hard to use, and you will die all the time.
4/5

Basketball: Better known as Super Basketball, I dont see what's super about it. Clumsy controls, tedious digitized voice samples, and rubbish presentation. Avoid this one in favour of the better games.
2/5

Circus Charlie: In this game you control Charlie. As he has a stab at different circus events, such as fire ring (jumping trough the burning rings of FIRE!) and tighrope. The game is hard and tough to get to grips with. But its decent enough.
4/5

Road Fighter: No, its not a version of Street Fighter. Instead its a top-down, high speed race. It has impresive graphics for its time, has a sense of speed and is easy to get to grips with. Its not for everyone, as its difficult and there is a stupid fuel system. I. HATE. FUEL!
3/5

TwinBee: Known as RainbowBell on this cartridge. This is one of my favourite games on the cartridge. Its cute, punishingly hard and has music catchier then Velcro. Simply amazing
5/5

Yie-Ar Kung Fu: The grandfather of Street Fighter. Without this, then Ryu would not be punching Ken square in the face. But is it fun, yes it is. But after beating the first 5 opponents. It gets absurdly hard. I cant even get past Chain.
4/5

Shao-Lin's Road: One of my favourite games in the package. Realesed as Kicker in Europe. You play as a dude who must clear the screen of everyone. You get powerups like a spikey ball which returns to you. An energy shield which kills opponents on contact. And energy shots which fire in two directions at once. This kicks ass.
5/5

Gradius: Arguably the best space shooter in this package. This is a classic which is very hard. but immensley playable. If you can get far enough to complete this, your better then me.
5/5

Rush 'n Attack: Better known as Green Beret in Europe. This is a side-scroling action game. In which you destroy troopers running at you. Its fun, addictive, brutally hard but extremely fun.
4/5

Now, ladies and gentlemen of Gamespot. I give you the crown jewel of this compilation. The one which many remember from the NES days as the game with a 30-lives code. The one which leads to more swearing then a Scarface/Goodfellas double bill. I give you! (drum roll please)

CONTRA!!!

Contra: The best game on this package by a country mile. This is the hard as nails side scroller in which you blast aliens to kingdom come. Its a masterpiece. Best part is the 2 player mode, in which a buddy can join in and pop bullets in alien flesh. This is just fantastic
5/5

There are more features after playing every game (apart from Super Basketball of course.) like a music and sound player, a gallery showing you the circuit boards, box art, cabinets, posters and instruction books to each game. Trust me, if you have a taste for the retro, you shall love this!
