For such a rare game, Dreamland 3's a bit of a stinker.

Kirby Superstar was easily the best platformer I played as a kid, and still holds up today. It had 7-8 different games, some minigames testing reflexes and button mashing, other full games testing with skill, puzzles and exploration. Some even had crazy stories and RPG elements. I'll never forget trying to find every treasure or racing away from Metaknight or collecting all the abilities on Milky Way Wishes. And the arena was a formiddable challenge for me and my brother as a team.

Then I got Kirby 64 a few years later and was severely disappointed. Why had they decided to take such a kiddy direction with the series? It was still a solid platformer, but a lot of the depth and all the charm was gone.

A few years later, I decided I had to have this game. A game selling for 30-40 dollars used has got to be good, right? Well, this one's an exception. This game is basically just like Kirby 64 with even less depth and I can't see why they'd want to go this road after Superstar. I guess it was too hard to beat, so they just didn't even try.

One of the only interesting things about this game is the amount of abilities and comrades it sports. Basically, there are doors within each level, usually at the beginning that have several little comrades that you can "connect" yourself to. Depending on what power you currently have (due to having sucked up an enemy and stealing their ability) that creature will also have an ability like yours. There are different little secrets in every stage that you will have to find out what type of abilities you need to get to or take care of. If you take care of each added part in each level, you will get a star/heart at the end that will likely do something special for you at the end of the game. That is, if you manage to collect them all. A lot of the time this whole process is just guess and check

The game is just not all that fun and it's really quite easy. Most stages consist of dodging, killing or sucking up enemies and jumping platforms and whatever else. But the stages are very boring and it's hard to want to continue when you know what's coming next.

There's also a two-player mode, but I don't recommend it because neither one of you is going to have much fun with this. The look of the game is also not all that endearing unless you're maybe a kid. I guess I'd compare it somewhat to the look of Yoshi's Island, but more smooth and less interesting.

Bottom-line: Solid platformer that's just flat-out boring at times. You can easily play through it in a couple hours, but you probably won't want to. This game's price is rapidly going up (I bought it for around 30 and now it's near 70), so if you want to maybe invest in the game as a collectible, I wouldn't stop you, but if you actually want to have some fun, go for Kirby Super Star, which actually still holds up.
