"I don't wanna be the bad guy anymore." -Ralph (Wreck-It-Ralph)
Now, this poll question is.....very interesting and something I never done in the past 10 years. King Dedede used to be my favorite antagonist in the Kirby series. However, things were change but not for the better. The part near the end of Adventure shocked me that Dedede actually hide the real plot twist from Kirby. The bad side in DL2, DL3, Crystal Shards, and Epic Yarn, let various evils possess King Dedede himself, which is weird and confusing, and become control inside him. The good side, for some reason, manages to quit being the bad guy, help Kirby and join him on his latest adventures, and become the heroes themselves in the end (mostly example is Return to Dream Land).
Did you like King Dedede as a bad guy or a good guy or BOTH?

Dedede is more of a selfish neutral character, so he's more of a good/bad guy that does things according to how it will affect him. Of course he becomes a good guy if greater evil beings are invading and threatening Pop Star. It's no use being the self-proclaimed "king" of Dream Land if all of his subjects are dead, no? Otherwise, he's busy being a douche to Kirby.

Dedede was originally intended to be a straight up Bowser style bad guy, but he was so well liked in the first game that Nintendo decided to differentiate him from Bowser and Ganon by making him simply a misguided king who, most of the time, either has good intentions behind his actions (Kirby's Adventure) or gets posessed by bad guys and ends up helping the good guys. He also became a sympathetic character with Revenge of the King.

He uses monster's to beat the crap out of Kirby in the Anime!
Jokes aside, most of the time he's being possessed by Dark Matter. I don't know why he wants you dead in Mass Attack when Kirby just wants his body back. In Adventure, he has good intentions of not unleashing Nightmare (if I remember correctly). Haven't played Squeak Squad, but doesn't Kirby automatically blame Dedede for stealing his Strawberry Cheese Cake.
The worst thing he's done is go crazy with stealing all the food out of selfishness and being a jerk. Even in the Anime he doesn't really want Kirby dead as noted in some episode that I forgot which one.

King Dedede was more wicked in the anime that he ever was in the actual games. The worst he was in the games was greedy and selfish.
That said, he's not really a "good guy" or a "bad guy" in my opinion. He generally takes whatever side he thinks will most benefit him at the time.

King Dedede was possessed in Mass attack as well. After you beat him you see a a little spirit thing fly out of his body.
The only time he was a "villian" was in KDL. Considering the other villians in the series, stealing food is quite tame.

If you subscribe to the theory that the anime is a prequel to the games (which...might be true, because all the statements to the contrary I've seen are really unsourced and I'd like to know if there's a Sakurai or other creator quote that can shed more light on this), then King Dedede was clearly a villain who basically became less evil over time, but still somewhat greedy and mischievous now and then.
