Unfortunately many good game never see fruition here in the states, and it is a shame really because I can think of many occassions where we miss out on some really good games. The original King's Field is one of them.

By today's standards the graphics are quite primitive, the sound a bit repetitive, and the story a little choppy. But in retrospect, this game was one of the very first release games available for the original playstation, so with that in mind, what it accomplished is pretty impressive.

The story begins the lore of the King's Field series, that in itself is impressive to start. Any KF fan knows that the series is based around one of the most well thought out and expansive histories of any game. KF 1 doesnt dissappoint with the wealth of information you can gather about the different people you meet and the history of the kingdom. The truth glass is alive and well in this version and can be used to get further background about multiple key elements of the game.

The 5 levels that make up the game are relatively well thought out and will keep you busy going back and forth between them as you obtain new keys, magic and weapons to go deeper and deeper in the dungeon. The game's difficulty progresses well with little need to stay in one area and grind levels.

A few of the secrets are ambiguous on what youre unlocking, and the magic gain system is a little odd compared to the refined system of the two U.S. releases, but all in all the game offers the same recipe of goodness the other two titles provided.

I recommend the game for anyone who enjoyed the other two and you can get some more information about the game at kings-field.com or swordofmoonlight.com
