Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - What Is It?

To me, this game is very, VERY fun, but it's not mind-blowing.

That was the worst thing about Skyrim, menus after menus after menu after load screen after another of either of the previous. Nothing flows and even the favourites bar gets overloaded and you end up scrolling though never ending lists of potions and equipment, when I'm fighting a dragon I want to see the dragon not the never ending menus. Good of you to think of us Ken. Looks like a very good game, just hope it isn't as long as rumour says because if I play a 200+ hour game it would take me probably six years, Skyrim is bad enough at the moment.

@chrisps Um what hype? Please compare the launch week/month promotion for KoA to oh ANY of the big hits last year when we were utterly BOMBARDED with stuff about them for months either side of launch.

I am pretty excited about this after seeing the gameplay footage...only thing that worries me is the length...if it's something like 10-12 hours I 'll be very disappointed...but if it's like 40+ hours it's going to rock!!!! By the way, does anyone know if it will require internet connection to install and/or play?... like steam, origin e.t.c. ....? god i really wish its DRM is like Fallout 3....just install and start playing!

Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga already did this. The developers simply lacked EA's marketing department. That being said, DKS was a great game, and if this game improves upon it, KoA will be a must buy.

i finish more semi-open world games than fully open world games. The Witcher 1 and 2 (finished) Bioshock (finished) Half life 2(loved it and finished) call Of Duty (finished) Resident Evil(finished) Crysis (loved it and finished) Mass Effect(finished) Dragon Age(finished) knights of the old republic(finished) The liest of semi-open world games that ive finished FAR outwiegh the full open world games ive finished. open world games Skyrim (cant be bothered after 20 hours, not finished) Grand Theft Auto 4(not finished) Farcry 2(unfinishd and it got super boring) the list of full open world games go on that i havent finished, i never finish them and i barely go back to them for a long LONG time. I do eventually. It just goes to show that as much as i like the IDEA of open world, the reality is, most of them are NOT FUN AT ALL. They dont draw me in as much as semi-open world games do.

This will be (at the very least) a great 'time-burner' until ME3 is released.

If this has a great story and i can put hours upon hours without being bored then I'm sold, but lets wait for the review.

Ken Rolston is a genius and i love his work! In fact this is game also seems very appealing but i am not sure that it will be so for what Ken desired it to be..I really hope that the game delivers as an excellent gaming experience even if it doesn't set groundbreaking gameplay and mechanics as Ken hopes it to do! Don't worry Ken we love you either way :)

its not WoW so much, its more ZELDA mixed with Fable with WoW colours and a Witcher 2/Elder Scrolls skilltree. P.S my EA GAMES are dwindling from my library by the year, However The Reckoning looks like it might be fun.

Love all the transparent tons of detail in character development while not feeling bogged down exploring and fighting in Kingdoms Of Amalur. Graphics have a very nice mix of retro ambience mixed in with a modern look. Just pre-ordered my paid in full copy today. Tis the good life to have the likes of Tes V Skyrim and Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning to relax and get lost in other worlds with.

well....it doesn't actually look very much RPG-like, but rather ARPG-like, upgraded diablo or dungeon siege anyone? looks a lot like Dung. S. 3...not that it will be bad, I just don't like when "3d action with rpg flavour" is defined as RPG...looking forward to playing it, nothing else currently on the market captured my interest...

The narrator reminds me of a drunk Hobbit with buckteeth. This game can (keyword: CAN) be really, really cool, and I rather liked the demo, so I'll follow this game as much as possible.

Game looks good from what Ive seen. Im sure there will be some issues as no game is perfect...but if its worth picking up I hope they provide as much support down the road as CDProjeckt does with the Witcher series

Yeah I agree, the intro circles thing wasn't funny or informative, unless you're a complete gaming newbie who doesn't know what rpg stands for... The game hardly hardly looks revolutionary, but I expected the developers to pretend that. What did you expect them to say, "Our game isn't anything special, you've seen it before. It's a mish-mash of previous games, but we figured it would work, so we didn't want to risk creating something more original." Overall I myself don't really enjoy the combat system. Sure its fast paced with lots of killing, but I tend to find that style a bit boring in of itself. Hack & slash, hack & slash. The part of the game I DO like are the skills, which have a truer rpg feel to them, which is nice. It's hard to judge it from the demo, but I hope I have to think more during combat, or I'll get bored. The cartoon graphics are okay if you like that WoW/Fable look, but I prefer things a bit grittier. All in all though, it still looks like the game with be fun to play (just not OMG groundbreaking). The BIG question is how deep the open world gameplay & story is. If its shallow, I don't think it will score well with gamers and reviewers.

i played the demo ... i spot two annoing things ... the animation is creepy dont like it ... the inventory system is simply and poor like an nes game ... dont feel the epicness of the items... personally i prefer the doll type invemtories

played the demo and it was okay, but this game is hardly revolutionary or even all that different from any number of games (think fable series, think DA2, etc).

played the demo using a rogue type character and thought it was pretty cool. the fighting is a bit arcade but that is not a bad think. it reminds me of the combat in Dragon Age II.

@MNBeta03 I share your concerns, particularly where combat is concerned, having played the demo it's certainly fluid but it seems too easy and not being able to aim projectiles yourself is rather annoying. I still standby what I've often said, Dark Souls has the best combat any RPG has ever had in my opinion. Graphically I can live with it but it would benefit from a grittier look.

After playing the Demo, I decided to pre-order this game, and i'm confident in the creators, since one of them is a famous Comic Book creator, and I LOVE COMIC BOOKS.

I love the RPG genre but this combat looks like a step down from Dark Souls... and the graphics also seem a little behind the times and cartoonish. Although I am intrigued by the RPG elements, they look extremely deep and well developed. I want this game but not a release date purchase for me. @MVan86 How is this huge EA game a dark horse anything?

I freaking love RPGs and action combat games like Devil May Cry and God of War so this game is right up my alley. Played the demo last week, it was awesome.

The end of this was hilarious. Got me laughing huge, but when he said "A piece of CANdy," I almost lost my bowels. Oh man, the look on his face. Thanks Gamespot, now I have to clean up this mess and take my second shower of the day. Seriously though, I can't wait to play this. Got my copy reserved. It might not even be in the mail, on it's way to my local game den, but already I can hear it whispering to me.

Meh, too many life sucking RPG's at once. Need more hours in the day. Think this one will be a 'future' purchase rather than a right now for me. I need 'some' life to call my own still.

I see people praising this game from watching this trailer but have you played the demo yet? @ Nokia4512; how can you possibly judge what score it will get, how? tell me how. I personally played the demo and thought it was unicorn plop. the only thing which is good is the fast combat but the ACTION/ RPG ELEMENT IS FAR FROM NEW AND SCARY. actually... far from new. Kudos to EA for buffing up the game though.

Looks good, but there's one major problem. I seriously do not have enough time for all these amazing RPG's! I'm not complaining about the games, it's just there's not enough days in the week or hours in a day! :cry:

Oh, Ken, you are one crazy man. :p Although you do make great games, so I won't complain. I have this pre-ordered- can't wait to jump into it. Having played the demo 4-5 times, I always find something new, whether it be a side-quest or a hidden treasure chest, even if the demo limits you to one region in the whole world. And that is a large world map to run through. Seriously, hit the world map and zoom out as far as you can.

It is the dark horse hit of 2012.

really can't wait to play this game. the demo was pretty awesome in spite of the bugs. it's nice to see a fantasy rpg that's trying to stand on it's own two feet from a lore perspective rather than doing too much of what's been done before. loved the combat system and i'm really looking forward to tinkering around with the skill system. it's great that they're giving the opportunity to break away from archetypes and be your own character. feb 10th can't come soon enough
