Build Troops, Wage War, Join The Battle! What Could Be More Fun?

User Rating: 10 | Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders XBOX
Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders is an RTS RPG hack and slash. You chose one of the first two characters that are unlocked and from then you get a taste of how to control your troops. The game is handled like an RTS at this point but then - you engage an enemy troop and this is where you take direct control of your character and fight alongside your troops. The first two missions for the first two characters are simple and get you ready to control troops and fight. Once finished, the whole game changes again as you enter the world map. You see the land and the castles from far above and this is where you get to move to camp and castles to level up your character, buy new equipment and level up your troops and buy them new equipment! The RPG elements are really great. Equipment increases strength, adds bonuses and resistances, so you really can build up a great troop.

The story is very unique and the best story in gaming history. The story is set in a war torn land called; Bersia. There, humans, elves and dwarfs (Good side) fight against dark elves, vampires and orcs (Evil side). Sometimes humans even end up fighting against each other and it's the same with dark elves, orcs and the other races. Just think of the war going on in the game as Good vs Evil.
The first two characters aren't really involved in the main story, the second two are involved in the main story. The story is about an artifact called "the ancient heart" and nearly everyone is out to gain it at one point. This heart is linked to a being named Regnier who gains his immortality from it. Destroying it brings a massive demon into the world which starts killing everyone, Regnier knew about this demon and tried to stop the humans from destroying it who believed that they had received a vision from God to destroy it and this would bring peace, this vision was actually from the demon; Encablossa and when destroyed it brought him into the world. Kendal - a General then joined forces with Regnier although he didn't really want to since Regnier was evil and Regnier probably didn't want to join forces with humans but since Encablossa was even killing his own people (Orcs - also evil), Regnier decided that he needed to join forces with the humans (who are good). Kendal decided that he had no choice - his forces would need to join with Regnier's forces to even be able to launch an attack against Encablossa. Both Regnier and Kendal destroy Encablossa and enter his realm along with other heroes - Encablossa was not truly destroyed though and thus the story continues in Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom.

This is not the whole story - this is just a quick explanation of it, what makes it unique is the history and the characters who all have unique personalities and great voice acting.

Moving on to the combat; each character has great attacks and unique attacks. Each one is different. Fighting is quite easy - A is for a strong attack, X is for a normal attack, Y is for the character's special attack and B is for a blocking or counter attacks and with another character; another special move. Combining these buttons leads to better attacks and each character has different animations and different strengths. This makes for the game always feeling different when fighting as each character.

Moving on to everything else:

The music is great, the voice acting is great, the missions are great and the game should take 40 hours for you to finish. The replay value is great though and should add even more hours onto your play time.

The game is also playable on Xbox 360 if you have the update from Xbox Live, so go out and buy it.
