Apparently Nomura still isn't big on that, because I think I heard somewhere that if he had to remove something from the game (assuming we're not counting Final Mix stuff that was added later), that battle would be the first to go.

That wasn't because he didn't like it. That's because it was just so big and hard to do, so they'd gain the most space and time by removing it.

Plus, a lot of people hated it anyway, due to only having 2 kinds of Heartless.

Whenever there's an intro movie that has the words "Kingdom Hearts" zoom into the screen, it always zooms in close to the M, which is the 13th letter of the alphabet.

    - In KH2, orginally Xemnas would've used two other Nobody-like things other than World of Nothingness. They were called King and Kentaruros.

-Orginally, in KH2, you could've fought all the members of Org. XIII in Olympus Coliseum, but it was scrapped for time constrains and moved to Final Mix in the form of the Data battles.

-A new type of Behemoth Heartless and Wyverns would've originally been part of the 1000 Heartless battle. The opening cutscene of Re:Coded features them.

-Dive to the Heart was originally supposed to be in Chain of Memories.

-Deep Jungle was supposed to return in Chain of Memories, alongside its keychain, Jungle King, but we all know why that didn't happen.

-Disney Castle was orginally explorable in KH1. Fun Fact: Hacking shows that the areas that exist in the cutscenes are coded to work.

-In the End of the World, a place known as Crumbling Island was orginally used as an area where Sora would've fought Riku one last time before Ansem

-A Darkside was supposed to be fought at Beast's Castle in 358/2 Days instead of Dark Follower. Meh.

-Renders of several characters from KH3D's Demo exist in Birth By Sleep Final Mix. These include Ansem, Sora, Riku, Kairi, Xemnas and Twilight Thorn.

-There was an equipable Keyblade for Ventus known as the Light Seeker. It was a version of the Kingdom Key D, and it can be hacked in on Japanese Versions of the game.

-Lazy Afternoons in KH2 has an alternate version in the game's data.

-Two palatte swaps of KH2's Ultima Weapon exist in KH2. They are the Edge of Ultima and the Detection Saber. Edge of Ultima is a glitched version of KH1's Ultima Weapon, while Detection Saber is basically the same thing, but slightly larger. Hacking them in, if you access their keychains, all you get is a map icon.

Dearly Beloved was originally supposed to play during a certain event in the original Kingdom Hearts, but was cut from the game. It was saved at the last moment when Yoko suggested it be used as the game's title track.

IIRC the keyblade was actually in the original GBA game, although you would have had to hack to obtain it.

-Nomura was deadset on choosing Utada Hikaru to compose the series' theme songs from the very beginning, despite the beliefs of failure from the other staff. In fact, persuading them otherwise took more time than to negotiate with Utada.

    - Monstro was going to be a boss Sora, Donald and Goofy fought while traversing on the Gummi Ship. The development team ran into some difficulties programming the massive whale though, and it was eventually cut from the game.

    - Due to the contract, Mickey Mouse could only be included in a single cutscene, because Disney didn't want him to be abused in order to attract attention. Their example for the type he could play was "waving from behind a large crowd."

    - Originally, in the scene where Sora, Donald and Goofy first meet in Traverse Town, Donald and Goofy were supposed to explain abilities and the like through singing.

    - Before speaking with the staff, Nomura had chosen over 20 worlds to include in Kingdom Hearts, including original worlds.

    - Kairi's name was originally going to be left as "Kai," but Nomura didn't think it was feminine enough for her character.

THANK GOD the Donald and Goofy singing scene got cut >_>

    Reposting from TVTropes:

Sora, Riku, and Kairi have REALLY disturbing names. So, one thing you need to know about Japanese is that it is utterly choked with homophones. Now, fans seem to think Sora's name is from is Sky, Kairi's is from Sea, and Riku's is from Land... And that's totally valid. But remember what I said about homophones? Riku is a word for land. It is also a word that means "the agony of separations". Kairi is actually the word for Nautical Mile, and this is significant, because it shows that the creators were deliberately aiming for names with double meanings. The other meanings of Kairi are: alienation, dissociation, estrangement, detachment, and beaver. I'm pretty sure the last one is coincidental, as you'll see. Sora is the word for sky. It's kanji is 空. The kanji has another definition: emptiness, blank, vacuum.

You know what else means emptiness? Vanitas.

About character themes: Ventus and Vanitas' themes are medleys and remixes of Sora's and Roxas' themes, right? However, remember that this game is a prequel. Ventus' theme isn't an expanded remix of Roxas' theme, Roxas' theme is Ventus' theme, stripped of several of it's instruments and notes. Likewise, Ventus' and Vantias' themes aren't using riffs from Sora's theme, Sora's theme is the union of their themes. You know what this implies for Sora, guys. Pretty ironic, considering that the part which comes from Vanitas is the cheerful one in Sora's theme.

On a similar note, No Heart's battle theme, Forze del Oscurita, is a combination of Forze del Male (Xehanort's Heartless' battle theme) and Darkness of the Unknown (Xemnas' battle theme). No Heart is the discarded keyblade armor of Master Xehanort, who would later be split into Xehanort's Heartless and his nobody, Xemnas. In short, Master Xehanort's battle theme (via keyblade armor) was split apart just as he himself would eventually be.

    - Terra and Mickey have never interacted before

    - Timeless River consists of two small "rings" of rooms connected in a loop, both of which are connected to a large "hub" room. This can be drawn as the classic Mickey-head shape.

The fight between Riku and Roxas in the original trailer started out as just a concept trailer in order to get people excited about a possible sequel to the original game. Then they reference it in II and finally it becomes the last part of Days.

Not sure if the three knights trailer that became the climax of BBS had similar origins.

Cloud and Leon's fights in KH2 are the only non-training story required battles in KH1 in which you can loose and not get game over. Dive to the Heart was a training area.

I thought you didn't need to beat the one on Destiny Islands either... And I wouldn't really call Destiny Islands a training area

Yeah, you could loose to Darkside in Dive to the Heart and it wouldn't change the scene at all. You don't get any experience points from the battle though. I haven't lost to Darkside while at Destiny Islands so, I can't confirm or deny that one. This is just from personal experience since I was a kid and pretty bad at games when I first played KH1.

An interesting point is that Leon gives you an Elixer if you beat him, but doesn't if you loose to him.

I would, most of the battles there introduce new aspects such as Tech Points, Wakka, and help you to figure out how to stagger, dodge and such with Tidus and Selphie. Those are optional battles though. Riku's is probably the toughest of the group, but there's pretty much no consequence for loosing either way.
