User Rating: 7.9 | King of the Monsters 2 SNES
King of the Monsters 2 is the sequel to one of my favorite games. In the first game, it was a stage style fighting game between a number of different monsters vying for dominance while destroying the cities around them. In this second installment, the monsters from earth team up to defend the planet from invading aliens. This game is a creative blend of the standard versus fighting games with some scrolling action games. Gameplay: 7/10 Overall the gameplay is much more difficult than the previous game. Difficult enough to make it less enjoyable, unless you are playing two players vs. the computer. Power ups, health tabs, and power downs =( are found under destroyed buildings or sometimes destroyed aliens. The game is played in stages where you first fight and scroll through aliens attacking the city. But at the end of the stage you fight the boss. Power ups are important in this game because the bosses are a bit too difficult, even in normal mode. Graphics: 9/10 The graphics have a comic book look to them, and are done very well. Not only are is it colorful, but very detailed for an SNES game. There are so many different creatures you have to fight and all are drawn well. The backdrop, that is the cities that you fight in, are designed well with landmarks that are indicative of each city. Sound: 8/10 The music during the game is very exciting and upbeat... fitting for the fast past action of the game. The sound effects, with explosions, lasers, destruction and fighting,... all are done well and are fitting for this game. Reviewer's Tilt: 8/10 This game is a good sequel to a very good game. There are enough changes and upgrades that make this game a very different one that the first. Although this game's difficulty makes the enjoyment a little less than the first, King of the Monsters 2 is still an excellent game.
