Definitely A Monster of A Game, But Certainly Not The King!

I find it weird how I find it essential to review this game, but not the original game that came before this one! Maybe that's because in the first game, there was only one REAL problem; the fact that you had to pin down your enemies for a few seconds before you could truly beat them. Otherwise, that game was a solid game with no real drawbacks to it. In this game, they actually DID fix that problem, so now you can just knock down a boss character and be done with it; only to add some other drawbacks that didn't exist in the first game! For starters, the number of characters you can choose has gone down from six to three. Maybe those other characters WEREN'T so popular, but it still would've been NICE to have the option to play as them. Second, while you still travel around the world to fight giant beasts, you don't get to play around and destroy the scenery as much, as the time limit insists you hurry up to where the giant beasts actually ARE, meaning you don't get to have as much fun destroying stuff as you did in the first game! If that wasn't bad enough, in the first game, there were just power-ups and gold bars or money to boost your score. In this game, there are still power-ups, gold bars or money, and even health boosters have been added into this game. The problem is, power-downs have also been introduced into this game, and if you collect a power-down, which is FAR too easy to do, due to the fact that sometimes, an item won't REVEAL what it is until you touch it, and if you don't jump away QUICKLY; the game will register as you having picked it up even if you didn't want to! And while collecting up to two power-ups will boost your health, picking up a power-down will knock your health back to its original starting point. And in the first game, while the giant beasts are tough to beat, they always fought in a somewhat fair manner; and it felt like if you lost a life, it was more your own fault than anything else. In this game, the enemy A.I. feels more unpredictable, and they ALWAYS seem to fight with strategies that feel like the most CHEAP ways possible to whittle down your H.P.! While the graphics, music, sound, and controls feel as good as they were in the first game, it's the increased difficulty and more unbalanced enemy A.I., that make this game not feel as good as the first one. The game IS beatable, but the game will DEFINITELY make you earn your victory your hard way, with a LOT of patience required, even on the EASIEST difficulty level! Still, if you want to play as a giant monster who gets to destroy giant aliens and (sort of) save the world, this is definitely a challenging game to play, especially on the version available on the Nintendo Switch! Enough said, true believers!
