A surprisingly great 3D fighting game that combines 3D graphics with 2D gameplay perfectly.

I'm impressed by SNK. They actually perfected the 3D graphic/2D gameplay formula that Capcom tried for so many years back in the Street Fighter EX series, which wasn't anything to jump for joy about. Now, KOF: Maximum Impact perfects the formula, by combining characters from the KOF universe, like Kyo Kusanagi, Iori, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, and newcomers like, Lien, Chae Lim, and two brothers who are connected to the storyline (I forgot the names at the moment, I apologize), with a 3D universe has above average graphics and a feel that makes the characters feel lighter, like they do in their 2D counterparts. Also, with a good story mode, arcade mode, and a creative challenge mode, and you have a great overall game. Its sad that the story wasn't as good as it was all cracked up to be, and some challenges are a bit rough around the edges. And one warning, the final boss is a cheap you know what, as he'll constantly try the same combos over again and he has infinite specials, so expect him to yell and set the ground on fire with an almost unavoidable attack (yes, its annoying and a pain) alot. Overall, though, this should please any fan of fighting games; 2D and 3D alike!
