KOF should stick with 2D fighters.

User Rating: 6.6 | KOF Maximum Impact PS2
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact is a good 3D fighter game, but, it doesn't compare to the levels of games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter. King of Fighters Maximum Impact also dosen't feel like a KOF game. The fighting system isn't like the KOFs on the Neo Geo. The combo system is very simplistic, which sometimes you can hit the same button repeatedly to do combos, which is a huge contrast to the KOF games on the Neo Geo. The graphics on this game is pretty good, the backgrounds of the stages are well done. The character sprites look really good, and it's nice to see all our favorite KOF characters into 3D. The gameplay is good, the game plays very well. But, as I said before, this game fighting system isn't very deep, unlike the Neo Geo KOFs. The fighting system is very simplisitic. The sound is this game could been a lot better. There are no memorable tunes here from the previous KOF games. The music is very generic, and there are really no memorable or good music that are in this game. The voice overs for the characters are horrendous. The voices don't match the flap of their mouths, and the voices are very generic. Some characters, you can tell that the actors is just reading from a script, and other voices just don't match that character. The difficulty of this game is pretty easy, except for the last boss, Duke, who can be cheap at times, because he has unlimited special attacks. But, the difficulty is nowhere near as hard as the Neo Geo KOF games. So, if you're a KOF fan, you'll probably like this game. But, for people that is expecting a deep fighting system like Tekken, you won't find it here. So, I'd probably recommend this game for KOF fans.
