Could have been a great game

User Rating: 8.1 | Killzone PS2
Killzone is no "halo killer" but it is a decent shooter that will keep you entertained for hours. The story is a little cliche since it based around a sort of alien invasion. The gun play is really good as far as FPS go. As most people know the playstation controller isn't the best for a FPS but it does the job well. The game does look great but there are quite a few glitches where character models will get lodged in to environmental pieces. The framerate does drop at times but it isn't very noticeable. I've also encountered some glitch's where sounds will repeat over and over again. The AI isn't that great for both allies and enemies but it doesn't really matter when the game throws alot of them at you at once, which it tends to do often. The environments look great and are very diverse from jungles to space platforms. The guns, while all done before in other games, look very unique and they all have special functions. For example the ISA assault rifle smaller clip but is more accurate and has a grenade launcher. Then the Helgan assault rifle has larger ammo capacity but is inaccurate and has a shotgun mounted under the barrel. The sound of the game can be really annoying. Your allies only make two different comments towards you based on their condition, meaning whether their being shot ot not, or your shooting accuracy. The Helgan always make these annoying screams of pain when they die or they yell "we've got company" or "GRENADE". You gain the ability to play as different characters throughout the campaign which good for mixing up gameplay. Each character has their own special abilities and it factors in to how you make your way through each mission. The single player is a very solid and enjoyable experience if your not expected a whole lot. The multiplayer felt a little half assed and it probably was. It can be very fun at times but mostly is just about who can shoot of a grenade into someones face first. I also want to point out that originally the game was slated to come out on the PC only but at the last minute it was changed to the PS2 and I think alot of the many problem with framerate and glitchs account for that.
