The greatest shooter on the PS3 is one of the best ever. Terrible story mixed with fantastic game play will clash though

User Rating: 9.5 | Killzone 2 PS3
I did not play Killzone. But as a PS3 owner I was very interested in the Killzone 2 hype train. The trailers and pictures were stunning and I (and many others) were hoping it would turn out right. Well it did. For the most part.

The first thing to note and get out of the way, is the graphics are spectacular. The particle effects and textures make the game really tense. Blood effects are also very cool, and combined with visceral gun play the battlefield gets bloody fast and fights are very intense.

The sound effects are also very good, echoing gun blasts and splattering head shots make the game sound gory. Whats more is the sound track is also good, epic orchestra make this really feel like a big war.

The multi-player as well is intense, with 32 players online, and levels designed so that your never looking for an enemy, the fight is always on. There is also an in depth class system with ranking and ribbons and medals for unlocking extras. The multiplayer has tons of depth and intrigue to it and is very well done.

The only problem I had with this game is the same as other shooters. The story and the characters are just awful. I really don't see the point in developers having writers, they obviously are not doing their job properly so they could save money and have the programmer make better dialogue. Unnecessary swearing makes the characters childish in a very serious situation, and the characters stupid actions in combat make them verily retarded. Always dying on me and not helping, just asking for help made me wonder if they should have just been taken out of the game.

I digress though, the Helghast have good voice work, they will threaten and swear at you in combat making you hate them even more and I found it really added to the war.

I think that for a shooter, the story is not important, but it is bad. The multi-player and fantastic gun play are simply stunning, its really a cinematic experience that you must play.
